this also explains why when i shot water in my exhaust it got much louder, i didnt think they had fiberglass packing in a stock muffler.

The only fiberglass was between the two layer of shell. It has an inner and outer shell and just a little fiberglass between.

Don't think it would be any different. According to my research the WS6 has the same exhaust. I am curious to see how much power I can muster out of mine with the stock manifolds and an NA set up.

The tail pipe outlet size is bigger on the WS6/SS muffler, 2.5" vs. 2.25".

I also believe that the chambers may be a slightly differnet design, but I cannot confirm this as fact.

Overall, the difference in flow between the two will be marginal.

i was pretty set on the stock ws6 exhaust after most of whats posted here and the ancient article on the b&b triflow making 1hp more than a ws6exhaust. now after doing two days of searching through the archives this is the most confusing ****. Especially when someone like Damian is saying theres no difference between the std exhaust and ss/ws6. I love the sound of my stock exhaust with the cam, so my concern is power only.

sorry if this is not exciting for some of you, i just like the look and sound of my current setup, plus don't want to spend the money and chop my car up for no reason, this has been twistin my ***** up for two days now. lol

What my no.1 question is making 380rwhp(homeported heads and cam) with a ws6 exhaust how much of a increase would you guess I would get from going to a magnaflow catback?

Look in my sig man. I have owned alot of F-bodies. I too agree that the stock WS6/SS exhaust sounds great but there is a reason the SLP offered the Dual Dual on the SS and the Firehawk. If you can try to find a SLP dual dual exhaust if you can. This is the closest sound you can get to a stock WS6/SS exhaust. I would put any amount of money you will see a nice gain. Remember the piping on your SS/WS6 exhaust is the same as the exhaust pictured. The only thing different is the muffler.

If you like the stock setup, why not just get a cutout for power gain when you want it? Or, if you like the look of the stock tailpipes but want a full-time power gain, just get a Magnaflow replacement muffler to weld in.

Overall, you would gain more than 1rwhp with a muffler/catback upgrade on your setup. I have no idea what the situation was with the dyno test you are referring to, but any decent catback will make more than 1hp over the stock WS6/SS system.

yeah i guess I'm going to have to do it. its perfect timing as my car is 2.5' in the air as my trans is at TDP for a freshening but I wanna run it with this exhaust first so I have a before after comparison. Last time I ran the stock clutch was bellowing smoke so I only got one run in. I would be happy to pick a mph or two.

I would like to see some cutaway photos of a WS6 or SS muffler just for comparison to see if there are any differences. Anybody?

Cut out would work but then he is still stuck with the 2.5" piping.

I could be wrong but I thought the base models were 2.5 and the I pipe for the ws6/ss cars were 2.75. Either way a 3" catback would help a bit especially if he were to mod his car later down the road.

All V8 models received 2.75" I-pipes. I have a WS6 catback and a Z28 catback in my basement, the only piping difference is the tailpipe diameter (2.5" vs 2.25").

Cant wait to dyno my car again and see if I picked up any power going from 2.75 to a full 3".

I have a WS6 muffler that I'd be willing to cut open in the name of science, but I have a feeling that it would be identical to a stock muffler in its chamber design, and just has larger piping.
