Default How do I know its a T/A from the vin?

How do I know its a T/A from the vin? is there a letter or umber that automatically says its a ta? I know on the old monte ss's the eight number of the vin was a G which meant it was a true ss not sure about the t/a's and I search some auction sites thru my buddies dealer and often the say firebird and not t/a

Not sure about the VIN, but if its a v6 its a Firebird. If its a V8 its either a formula or t/a. You can tell the difference by the front bumper and spoiler, as well as interior (formulas came with cloth as standard). Are you trying to determine if its a true ws6 or just verify that its a t/a?

5th digit should be a "v". That says it is either a Formula or a Trans am. You can differentiate the two by looking at the front bumper and by looking for the badging on the door. The Formula is a Firebird with a v8 and a Trans Am has a different front bumper than a Firebird and also comes with the V8.

you cannot tell from the vin alone it will only tell you that the car is a v8 firebird formula. to verify its a t/a you have to look at the rpo sticker on the door. you will see ws9 which means its a formula and then you will also see y82 if its a true trans am also if its has the ws6 ram air package the code ws6 will also be there

WS9 is carried by both Formula's and Trans Am's it basically means the car is V8 equipped.
W66 (Formula) or Y82 (Trans Am) Y84 (T/A Convertible) are the codes to determine the model.

RPO codes:
WS9=V8 optioned car (ta or formula)
w66=Formula
Y82=Trans am

VIN 5#=V if it's a V8 (again, formula or trans am)

This why when you look at the title of your vehicle it will say "Pontiac Firebird Formula Trans Am" and not one or the other, the VIN itself doesn't specify.
