They do, but it's hard to get. I was just kidding about bringing my gun though. I will have some people with me in case something happens. Hopefully things go good and I can post pics.

I'll determine that once I find out how much it would cost to fix. If it's about $3,000 then I just might fix it instead.

TBH, I'm going to assume it has a Salvage title. You'd make more by parting it out, even if you kept the engine. You'd be about 4k deep *if* it only cost 3k to fix and even with low miles its hard to sell a salvage car..

Something seems strange here. The guy lives in a nicer neighborhood and the car has barely been used yet sits 'wrecked' in the yard. Why? Didn't he have insurance? Any insurance company would have given him thousands of dollars to settle, not $600. That just doesn't make sense. I bet there are salvage yards willing to pay much more than $600 as well. Too much value with the engine, wheels, interior, you name it. The only possibility I can think of is the guy decided to tell the insurance company to go 'stuff it' with their offer. He would rather give the car away, and now he is doing just that. Maybe no insurance coverage? It is possible too. Nice to be independant but this is a serious financial hit if everything checks out.

Good luck with this impending miracle ... and be careful!

The Firebird/TA leather was even worse than the Camaro, IMO. I bought my WS6 brand new, stored it in a garage when not in use, and regularly conditioned the leather. After just 10k miles I noticed that the top of the rear seats was showing the early signs of drying out/shrinking. Every Firebird/TA that I look at with stock leather has this problem. The top center section of the rear seat back (which isn't leather) stays puffed up to the original height, but the top of each side (directly above where the seating areas are) always dries up and shrinks. I guess sun exposure through the hatch glass is causing this. The Camaros don't seem to suffer from this particular condition (or at least not nearly as bad), but their leather isn't much better overall.

I've been much happier with the long term results of the cloth. There is virtually no wear difference between the cloth seats in my 100k mile car vs. my 16k mile car. Only thing that seems to be wearing out is the foam underneath....it's getting a bit flat.

Sorry to get off-topic but I loved my cloth seats in my '96 Formula. The leather just is not as 'warm' feeling. I guess I have been lucky with the maintenance though as the leather is still near perfect in my T/A vert but I only have 23,000 miles on it. Maybe the convertible top protects it better. I do use Meguiar's leather care regularly which I'm sure helps. I wish the cloth had been an option.

I used Meguiar's leather care too, but they still started to shrink

I think you're on to something about the convertible top offering more protection (unless it's down all the time). That massive hatch glass on the non-converts allows full sun exposure accross the top of those seats during the day. Even though mine was garage kept, I tried to take it out on as many sunny days as possibile, so it saw plenty of exposure I guess.

Yeah, leather became standard for Trans Am starting in 1998.

For all you doubters...

1. The seller and car ACTUALLY existed.
2. He didn't get eaten.
3. He didn't get pushed in a pit.
4. He didn't have to or to get the car.
5. He (hopefully) didn't get molested to get the car. or
4. Apparently he got a good deal - No .

But like mentioned above...as of now,
