haha, don't be stupid. You have a stall. Of course your city MPG's are going to suck. That's the trade off.

Oops, you're right. My bad. I just read stall, didn't see it was stock. I apologize.

Well I get 16-17 MPG in the city, but I have 2.73's. Maybe you can blame the gas mileage on your 3.23's? Or maybe if you drive in DR's you can blame it on that.

Could be other things, fouled plug, bad wires, fuel filter, air filter.

Correct, except you forgot to mention that its the ONLY way to get a true fuel economy reading. Especially with GM fuel level sensors, but even on something more accurate. Miles per tank would only be accurate if you filled it till the pump stopped and ran the car till it stalled out, then rolled into the gas station.

Not to bring this thread back from the dead...but I just did a trip from Huntsville, AL to Atlanta, GA, then to Nashville, TN, and back to Huntsville, AL and I averaged right around 27mpg round trip. That includes a few hard pulls playing around on the interstate...........All my driving was highway and Interstate...no city driving at all. I was pretty happy with that mileage

In my close to 165k LS1 with cruise control on 70 through a a4 I was getting almost 400 miles out of a tank. Slow starts and slow stops help.

I once got 33 mpg on a 60 mph cruise from Springfield to Kansas City. Next to no traffic and a tail wind in my favor. I didn't believe the Scan Gauge reading so I went and filled up. Sure enough! That's my personal best..and it only happened once. Strictly highway I average 29-31. Strictly city is somewhere in the neighborhood of 17. I've checked it at the pump religiously since I bought the car and the worst I ever got was 19 mpg, which was ~70% city/~30% highway, with the addition of a few races. On average, I normally get 26-27 mpg to a tank with mixed driving. I generally fill up around 350 miles, and it takes like 13 gallons.

I'm always amazed by the results in these threads. If you're looking to buy a 4th gen F-body, you shouldn't expect to get 30 mpg. Is it possible to average that on one tank -- certainly (under the right circumstances), however that is FAR from the norm.

With the mods below (H/C/I/E/4.11/315 tires), I get around 12 mpg city and 20 mpg at highway speeds. Before all of the mods, I might have seen 15-16 mpg city and 22 mpg highway.

I've had 3 F-body vehicles. All 4th Gens. 1 Z28 Camaro, 2 Trans Ams. All have done 25-30 MPH highway on straight highway trips. All have done 20-23 MPG average (Combined City and Highway, here in PA, normal driving, if not beating on it more than two or three times).

I've tried to beat on my '98 during a full tank to see how low I could get it. I got it down to 12.5 MPG average romping on it from almost every light.

That's pretty much what I'm getting too. This is a screencap of my Fuel Log app for the last portion of last summer when I was DD'ing my car. This is a good mix of city and highway driving, with maybe 60% of it being city. This is mainly sane driving, with some quick bursts of spirited driving here and there. Not too bad, and only 2-3mpg off of what my 2004 Malibu V6 gets! I'm excited to see what headers/ORY/tune will net me for improvements, I'm hoping to see 20mpg+ averages, as long as I can keep my foot out of it lol.

I use my 200 T/A A4 as my DD AND I use it for work. I work as an IT guy and travel between sites about 1400mi a quarter. I average 15mpg with full bolt-ons no matter what I do and I have 2.73's. Gonna suck going to 3.42's and a stall and cam.

I managed 27.3 on my trip back from Road America a month ago (290mile trip at interstate speed)... my normal average during the work week is 24-25... 90% highway.

I get about 14 mpg combined with 4.10s (half highway, half city, 75-80 mph on the freeway.) I get 200-220 miles to a tank. Coming back from Vegas with cruise set to 70 and to and from SF I got 290-330 a tank. I'm considering switching to 3.70s (Currie doesn't make 3.73s for my 9") but I'm not sure I would see much of an improvement. I drive a ridiculous amount though so any small increase would be welcome.
