Default LS6 conversion help?

I'm just gonna go out on a limb here and seeking for some advice.

I'm toying with the idea of converting to a ls6 platform, I know for the money I can buy better mods, but I'm not really interested in a lopey cam (atleast for for right now) I like the whole stock look, and its very drivable, yet intimidating with respectable hp/torque numbers imo.

I did some research and this is what I came up with.

GM front Main seal p/n 12585673 $15.54

GM Valve Cover Gaskets p/n 12560696 $14.57 each

GM Crank Bolt p/n 12557840 $4.99

GM Front Crank Seal 12561244 $21.78

GM Timing Chain Front Cover Gasket p/n 12574294 $22.99

GM Water Pump Gaskets p/n 12588372 $6.95

GM Head Gaskets p/n 12498544 $35.00

GM LS6 Cam 12565308 $287.95

GM Head Bolts 12498545 $27.95

GM LS6 Assembled Heads 88958622 $1493.95

ls6 oil pump $179.99

ls6 engine valley cover $74.52

12658010 LS6 PCV kit ????

total investment in parts = $2186.18

So my question to everyone, am I missing anything? any supporting mods to consider?

I got those p/n's from a previous conversion kit and added a few more ls6 items.

Again I'm toying with the idea, maybe i'll jus scrap the idea entirely.. but it seems like something to consider and an interesting build.

Before I go asking for prices, I'd like to get ya'lls input. Thanks

I'm thinking of adding hardened pushrods for support maybe..

btw mods, I think I posted this in the right section, as this has both internal and external mods in question.

First off how many miles on the short block?

Second, you are just better off get the complete assembled 243 heads or LS6 heads, get all the supporting mods ie: GM gasket kit, LS6 valley cover kit, LS7 lifters, hardened pushrods, comp 918s valve springs or Pac's equivalent, upgrade the rockers (trunion kit), ls6 oil pump, LS2 chain/timing gear, LS6 intake and a custom spec cam or baby cam then get a tune.

It's not a real LS6 conversion if you don't get the LS6 block.

IMO thats a lot of wasted money for the minimal hp your going to get....Id also definately get a stall first, 3600 up. Go over to a vendor for a h/c package you'll be much happier and probably spend less

First before i respond, I did have a 3600 stall installed recently, man i love that thing lol.

I currently have approx 30k miles on my car.

I was looking into 243 heads but, I diddn't know if i would be better off with 243 heads vs ls6 heads.. I guess that clears things up abit.

I already got the gm gaskets.

I think the springs, rockers, lifters are up for debate for me, but those you listed are definitely worth considering.

Ls6 intake & valley cover, pushrods, ls2 timing chain are on my to buy list

however, I'm at a stalemate on my cam specs. A baby cam sounds nice, but I don't want a rough lopey cam .. yet, and its hard to compare since everyone has monster cams (sarcasm )

any specific cam's you'd recommend? brands, specs?

Thanks for sharing btw

A 228 cam would drive perfect (with a nice stall of course). Just don't get a 110 or 112 LSA if you don't want to be lopey. $2,000 to gain just a tad bit of horsepower is wasted money IMO.

Ok cool, I always had my eye on a 228 cam, now the brand will be up for debate in my books. Maybe a Thunder Racing 228 ?

Anyways, yeah $2k in parts did seem pretty steep for 75 ft/lbs more ( or whatever the number is ) But 1.2k of that is reserved for a new set of heads. I don't have a ls6 intake, and i have a stock ls1 cam..

To my understanding you can't just throw in a cam and expect the best. I'm gonna need supporting mods to do so, ie: decent assembled heads, hardened pushrods, valvesprings, lifters, ls6 oil pump and.. well.. whatever else i listed.

I guess my point is I want to get it all in one swoop instead of parting here and there, so im trying to build a decent checklist since this will be my DD. If that helps any.. My target is something in the 400rwhp+ range, for now

damn for a bit over 1100 dollars more you could have a crate ls6 with 0 miles. why not do that? sell your old motor and make 1500 back. easy.
