Not 100% sure on what you're asking, but it comes out of GM fullsize's, such as the H2, Yukon Denali, gas HD pickups, etc., etc. From my understanding the block is iron, but the heads on the 01+ LQ4's are aluminum.

I would actually consider an "LQ4" not just to be a block but a specific engine... because the "LQ9" is the same block as an LQ4, but has some different components in the rotating assembly.
simply put, an LQ4 is a 6.0 cast iron Gen III GM engine with dished pistons and 317 heads. The designation is just like "ls1" or "lm7" or any of those things.. just GM production code.
You can find LQ4 engines standard in most 2500HD trucks between 99-200X (I think it was AT LEAST 2004, some say it went to 2006, I don't have my facts on that one) with a 24x reluctor wheel. Anything newer really will probably be a 6.2L gen IV engine with a 58x reluctor.
LQ9 is the same block as an Lq4, except that it has beefier rods, flat top pistons, and as such makes a bit more power stock (345 iirc) and was standard in the escalade with that option, and I THINK the silverado SS.
L92 as far as I know is either the 6.2L gen IV engine, or just the "rectangle port" heads on said engine.
L92 heads, though they are gen IV heads, will fit a gen III block, so long as you have a gen IV intake with the correct ports.
Hope that helps.

LQ4 is a iron 6.0 block, L92 is the truck version of the LS3 engine. L92 heads are making awsome budget power on 6.0 motors such as the LQ4 and even more on the higher compression LQ9
