Default 950 Mile Drive Question.

Well guys I am getting out of the military and need to make a 950 mile drive home. Here is the gist of my concern. I own a 2002 WS6 M6 4.10s and I have no 6th gear/grinds when I go to put it in. At about 65mph I'm turning 2400-2500 RPMs in 5th, am I safe to drive this car for 13-14 hours at let's say 2600 RPMs @ 70mph in 5th? Everything else on the car seems to mechanically sound besides the 6th gear.

Other mods: Ported 853s, Raptr cam, full exhaust, Lid/MAF, 28" tall tire (will be putting my stock 26" tire on) for the trip.

Anyone that has anything to add would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

6th gear is like an extra overdrive. Have you checked your clutch?

People used to drive that far/further without an overdrive. You'll be fine.

If you are really that worried about it, leave your taller tire on...you'll turn less rpms. If it makes you feel any better, I logged 3000 miles in 6 days last summer in my '76 T/A...turning 2500-3000 rpms the whole time...not exactly a hyd roller set-up either. You'll be fine.

2600 is fine. That's my normal highway cruising rpm in my TH350 Nova.

I wouldn't be too concerned with anything below 3k rpm. But MPG will certainly suffer.

you will be fine. 2600 is not too high

no worse than me making a drive from myrtle beach to nashville after buying a car, and the converter locked in and out on the interstate all the way home...2600-3100 all the way

5th gear in an M6 is .74 overdrive, extremely close to my 4th gear A4 overdrive of .74. I run 4.56s',even for long trips(Ohio to Florida). I get 21.5mpg at freeway legal speeds, you should be about 22-23mpg at freeway legal speeds.
Once on a trip back from Florida on I26 across S.C.,hooked up with a group of fast moving cars and I was in cruise-control at 4000rpm for about an hour.

I love the mpg that our cars get. I'd be so worried driving my car at 4000rpms for an hour. Glad to know this info though.

I used to hate cruising on the highway at 2k+ rpm when my car was auto, maybe it was just my exhaust though. right after my t56 swap I still had a 3.23 rear so I could do almost 90mph at 2k rpm hahah.

RPM doesn't bother me,as i posted 4 posts back. MPG is good as the computor handles it well. As far as cruising at 4000 rpm,if you figure 1000rpm is the low end of an LS1 and 6000rpm as the high end of an LS1,the middle of that is 3500rpm(center of designed operating rpm range),that 4000 was only 500 above that. If the engine can't handle middle of the range rpm, what good is it then ? The only thing that suffers is mpg. I've got 157K(I travel a lot) on the car and that 4000 for an hour was 3 years ago.
