Default How rare?

I recently bought my first F-body! A beautiful 3 owner, near mint, 1998 Camaro z28 Convertible M6. It's Bright Red, Tan top, Tan leather with 6 way power, power window, cruise, non-monsoon stereo, chrome 16 inch rims, Y3F package and 3:42 Posi. I was wondering how rare of a car this is?
Thanks guys
Ben

Well, if it is 100% stock I would say the fact you found a 100% stock Fbody is semi-rare.

But the Fbody was a pretty high numbers car. Pretty much only SOM colored cars are few enough in numbers to be worth something.

Even the final 35th LE car's were produced in decent numbers (3,000 I think).

That was just for '98, they made quite a bit more like it after that year. Doesn't really mean too much, I wouldn't get caught up on it. I say you go ahead and do exactly what you please with it. Not a collectors item, not right now at least.

Just because they didn't make that many of that type of car with that specific package does not mean it's going to be worth anything extra. But that little bit of information does mean that there aren't too many identical twins to your car out there.

My friend who owns a 2009 G8 GT often brags he has one of 300 cars. They made about 12,000 G8's in 2009, but only 300 had his engine, transmission, model, and color, so really when you break it down...not that special.

Is the car 100% stock? I agree with the others in that finding a 100% stock F-body is semi-rare.

Tons of cars are rare when you brake down enough options. There are so many options, usually there are only a handful of cars that are exactly alike. Pick and choose options and everyone has a rare car it seems.

It has to be something unique, rare, in low supply, and high demand to be desirable/worth more than a normal car.

There are enough "rare" colored 4th gens that none of them are really all that desirable more so than another, and I'd say that SOM isn't all that rare because they made them for 3 years (00,01,02)

Here are some of the rarest 4th gen colors:
-1993 and 1994 Yellow Firebirds
-1998 Bright Purple Metallic Firebirds
-1998 Sport Gold Metallic Camaros and Firebirds
-1999 Hugger Orange Camaros
-1999 Medium Blue Metallic Firebirds and Camaros

The car is 99.9% Bone stock. The .1% is the stock radio sitting in my garage lol. It was a lucky find. Bought it off an older fellow in Rutherfordton, NC for $5,500. Hoping to do a few bolt on mods and keep some fuel efficiency. I managed 16.9 mpg all city on the last tank of gas. Best car for the money I spent 100%. I think i'll have many more f-bodies..

THIS^^^ If you break any car down by all of the options it has then it will be somewhat "rare" but that doesn't mean it's any more valuable then any other car. Best thing you can do is enjoy the car, sounds like you found a nice one that hasn't been molested

16.9? You must not have been that kind to it. I get 17 in the city with my auto if I baby it. With that 6 speed you should be able to get 18 easy, and close to 30 on the highway. This thing drinks gas like a V6, if you drive it right.

Nice find man just do the preventive maintenance and you should see better MPG.
Sounds like my car when I first got it except I have an auto that is now stalled.

Tear into and have fun with it!
Here is what it could look like if you like the black red OR chrome red theme.

They made that color for several years and it wasn't all that uncommon?

I must be mistaken here, isn't it the blue/green color made from 96-00 (not sure on the exact years) on both Camaros and Firebirds?

Edit: I just looked it up and the color "mystic teal" (Camaros) and "Blue Green Chameleon Metallic (Firebirds) was used from 1995-2001 with a total of over 14,000 camaros painted this color...that's quite a few compared to say the 715 sunfire yellow Firebirds from 93-94 or the just over 1,100 bright blue metallic '99 camaros, what am I missing here??? It seems I see this color a lot on the streets around here...
