Why do people hate on lm1 but not the cut out? They sound the same. Is it because you can close a cut out maybe?

LM1 sounds great....if you still have cats, or if you put some bullet mufflers in the Y-pipe.

The problem isn't the Loud Mouth alone, or even the ORY alone, it's the combination of the two without some kind of muffler/bullet/etc to reduce the kazooing.

Having a Y-pipe is the real source of the issue here. True dual cars don't have this problem. You could have LT headers and true duals using only race bullets/resonators and even without a traditional muffler it would still sound great.

I have pacesetter long tubes, texas speed ory and the lm1 and I love how it sounds. TD's kind of remind me of mustangs which is probably why they dont appeal to me. The funny thing is that my setup is less raspy than others I have heard with different y pipes.

Mustangs and old muscle cars with true duals sound better than a Y-piped F-body, which is why I guess I like true duals on a modern F-body as well. Y-pipes can sound good too, but they need bullets or a catback that uses a muffler.

Of course, this is all just opinion.

To the OP, I have an LM1 I'm looking to sell for cheap-ish, I wasn't a huge fan of it so I got a Magnaflow catback instead. If you're interested shoot me a PM!

I have a set of eBay stainless lts a tsp ory and a tsp rumbler cat back Sounded good when I first cranked it up with my new cam. Took it down the street and when I shifted to second and mashed the go pedal all I could say was holy sh.. That's rasp. Bad. This will not be on the car much longer. Way too loud. The tsp ory was around 130. The rumbler was 239 I reused the stock tips. If loud is what u want. That should do it. Lol. The rumbler wasent bad at all when I had cats but after I took them off....... Dayuummmm...

im running a huge cam, fueled racing long tube headers, no cats, to a magnaflow y out to a single hushpower muffler.

it sounds great until you hit about 2400 rpm and you get the brrraaawap rasp sound. Reminds me of a honda civic with *****.. lol. I hate it. I love the rest of the tone and loudness, just not that rasp at those rpm.

+1 -- that's loud and raspy -- sounds like what you're going for. That setup will do the trick.

If you ever think you might have some interest in getting the best of both worlds with a y-pipe setup, run a more mild catback and slap an electric cutout in the intermediate pipe. Crack the cutout open 30-40% and it will add volume to the mix but you still get the benefit of the tone of the catback. Even better -- if you need it to be obnoxiously loud and raspy, just open the cutout and it will sound loud, loud and louder. No tone whatsoever, just really loud.

We all have our personal preferences -- I like to hear the tone in the exhaust note.

It sounds like open headers. Which is basically what it is. Its not for everyone. You either love or hate it.

I'm actually dealing with the same issue right now. Just had my stepped longtubes and tsp ory installed to compliment the borla catback on the car currently. Exhaust is loud as all hell and the rsp between 1800-2300 rpms is pretty bad. I have one borla muffler on the car and I'm curious what the do to cut down on the rasp. I looked into the powerstick mufflers but there isn't that much room between the y-pipe and catback, maybe 12-16 inches at most. Any ideas?

Just about any setup without cats (other than true duals) will do the trick.

Catless Longtubes,
2.25 duals,
X-pipe,
1/4 wave branch resonator to kill the drone.

That should sound enough like a race car for you and with the branch resonator actually be pleasant to cruise around in.
