Default How long do you think my 10 bolt last?

Im doing a h/c swap and I will have approx 430rwhp. I have the stock 10 bolt with the stock 275 street tires. Do you think it will last awhile or break soon? I dont plan on taking it to the track. Thats just asking for trouble haha. And I wont be getting bigger wheels and tires untill I have money for an aftermarket rear.

you should be fine since your own street tires the stress really is not going to be all that much more since you are running the same size tires, they will just break traction easier now LOL

Everytime we broke one it was because we did something... all that normal driving never did it...

Its hit or miss with the 10 bolt. My buddy beats the **** out of his car. Everytime he drives it he does burnouts. Zero issues after 5 years of hell rides.

Mine broke on my first ls1. 99 z28 "BONE STOCK" auto on street tires at night. WOT from a dead stop. Threw the car sideways into a poll. Its rare with a stock auto to brake the 10 bolt but I have first hand experience

A friend broke his running one wheel on the gravel shoulder. Gave the car a little gas and it snapped.

Can't make any promises to you with a 10-bolt because they're hit and miss, however with street tires and (presumably) the stock 3.42 rear it should be able to last under normal driving conditions. Tire spin will certainly help. Dead hooking on concrete will not.

auto.

supposedly built 10 bolts behind an auto can hold up to 10 sec. passes so if yours has held up you should be ok.

changing ring and pinion to a lower ratio will also increase chances of breakage unfortunately.

How much does it cost to get the rear rebuilt? Is it easy enough to do it yourself or not worth the trouble?

Or just buy a new/used rear?

This, while you read alot about 10 bolt failures on here at the end of the day these cars were not meant to be abused from the factory. If you drive it normally you SHOULD be fine (although there is always the possibility of failure). Unless you abuse the car or put slicks on it you will probable be fine.
