Default Viper GTS...theoretical proposition

If you are a Viper purist then look away or eat a bag of baby dicks...lol. J/K, seriously though, would it be evil or plain intelligent to say take a '97 Viper GTS with no motor and only the trans, swapping out the bellhousing and dropping in a LS 6.0 all aluminum with a single T76.

The Viper would have been engine free so its not like you pulled out a perfectly good running 8 liter. The 6.0 would have superior weight savings and with the motor back in the chassis, it would offer even better weight distribution.

Then you factor in superior head design and 6.0's making 700whp & it seems like it would turn the Viper into a real monster and a more viable daily driver.

The trans in the Vipers are pretty strong to begin with and should hold up well to abuse.

Would love to hear some thoughts on this.

Sounds awesome. Build thread! Build thread! Build thread!

I'd be interested to see what it would cost to get into something like that. I'm assuming you have a car in mind already? Or are you just thinking about it right now?

There are already a few LSx Vipers around, don't know about build threads, though..

I have looked everywhere and I can't find a single thread or topic about it. I guess no one wants to tackle it because they fear reprisal from both camps, Viper and 'Vette guys. I kind of had a car in mind ,especially when my dreams of buying a '59 Corvette were crushed http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c1-a...s-59-body.html. Guy wants 18k for his with everything but motor and my offer was $15k, exactly what it would have cost me to pick up the Dawson C1 body.

If it already had the motor in it I would say that's a dumb idea.

But considering it doesn't, why not? A 6.0 is not a bad motor at all and it's cheaper than a V10. The looks of a viper and the sound of a vette = win. Take pics.

Or... You can just buy a vette and call it a day. Pretty much the same thing... lol.

Vipers are cool though. Would be fun to see a build thread on it.

If you want a supercharged LSx in a 2 seater sports car, why not just get a corvette and supercharge it?

NEW IDEA! Put the 6.0 in a cobra kit car. If a ford guy gives you **** about it tell him its an AC Bristol kit car and you didnt want to put a british engine in it. Whaddayathink?

All of you have valid points, and I posted a link for the actual Viper so you could see "exactly" what I was talking about without too much speculation. I already have a C5, and it will be supercharged soon enough, once I finish twin-turboing this: https://ls1tech.com/forums/forced-in...rbo-build.html

A Viper and a 'Vette are not the same thing in terms of visual pop, no matter what you did to the Vette, there would still be 34 on every corner including my own...lol.

Guy said reserve was 18400, then I saw a suspect bidder amping it up, now he emails me saying reserve has been dropped to 15,100, so partake. I think not. I will get it if he re-lists, otherwise I can wait for another

I do like the idea of the Cobra kit car though, but if that's the case then I might as well buy the damn C1 body for $15k, their body for another $9k and stick whatever LS motor I want in it. I just don't want a kit car...not now anyway...maybe when I am old, and senile...next year probably...lol.

yea. It you got the means. Go for it. I personally hate the way vipers sound. Im sure the ls will be much more bang for the buck than a warmed over v10.

Sad part is I love Vipers, one of my literal dream cars, but I don't care for that archaic boat anchor of an engine.

If a Viper has an "archaic boat anchor of an engine", I'd hate to see what you think of my Z28.

But seriously, this sounds like a killer idea man!
