do all my own but spend anywhere from 300-800 at machine shop for cleaning, bore, balance depends on state and locations they have also always seated my valves and installed cam bearings. charge my friends unlimited beer and 200 bucks to put there motors together tho.

I would have a machine shop do the shortblock, you need all the clearances checked and everything has to be perfect... piston to wall clearance depending on piston material and that all changes if your NA or FI and power levels...
a good machine shop will charge 500-800 to do a good shortblock that will last for big power and be reliable.

you dont have to balance a stock rotating assembly even when changing bearings... it shouldnt change anything, but you mentioned you always do forged cranks with your builds so yeah it would need to be rebalanced

i used eagle w eagle rods and wiesco pistons on my 3 DSM builds they all were with in .001 gram when finished, havn't used one on a lsx build looking at them right now trying to figure out if i want to rebuild my ls1 or trade block for block with my friend with his LQ9 bored 30 over already

stock ls1 cranks can handle 1,000 HP so unless your supercharging your car, which puts more stress on the crank... I would stay stock..
But if you have the cash and want forged then it would work too
