These cars are kind of hard to buy in the winter months. Many people don't drive them because of the salt and snow. You may find a better selection in the spring.

The car has a deal pending on it. My dreams are once again crushed. Even if that deal does fall through today, I won't be able to get out there to see it again till next saturday. By then it'll surely be gone.

Haha, well that explains why I got no replies. I ponied up the cash and bought my own carfax. I ended up getting a nice deal on a black 99 Corvette Coupe. It cost me $13,900 and has 96,000 miles on it.

Go to the local forums and ask for somebody in the StL area. I bought my SOM Formula sight unseen from Oregon as I found somebody on here that was local and willing to go check it out.

The car you are looking for is out there. I just bought a 2000 SS, 6 spd, hardtop with 41,000 miles. Two documented owner and as clean as any new car I've ever purchased. I paid less than 10 grand and only had to drive 200 miles.

Keep up the search and you will be rewarded.

Thanks, I actually already landed a corvette though. Mileage is a bit high, and it has a few electrical bugs I'm working out, but overall it's very clean. And man can it take a corner!

96,000 isn't really that high in the grand scheme of things...I have friends with fbodies with 200,000 miles that you would never know it if the odometer was covered

That is LOW miles (6400/year) and BLACK and vette owners are typically **** about upkeep. I say, nice find

Yeah, she runs great and looks pretty good. I'm not terribly worried about it. I'm going to freshen it up a bit, and when the motor finally goes, I'll get it built...or maybe before it goes. What's a good short throw shifter for these cars? I used an MGW on my mustang and loved it. Didn't know if there was a different favorite for these cars.

Just be patient and keep looking. I looked for over a year to buy a car. I was looking at cobras, machs, ws6 etc. Then I wanted only a ws6 or Camaro. Didn't even really like Camaros so ws6 (in white) was top priority. Then I found my hugger orange SS with 11,4xx miles on it and I fell in love. The guy was asking 15k but I got it for a bit less. ITs bone stock but a borla catback and has never seen snow, no rock chips on the front from highway driving etc. Deals are out there keep looking. At least you're being smart and leaving the mustang like I have

Yeah, there was a silver WS6 at the same lot that I was going to look at for $11,500 I think. That was my backup plan if I didn't like the Corvette. I've never really been a drag racer, nor do I ever give people rides, so I figured the 'vette fit me better. I'll use the better handling way more than I'll use the straight line drag capabilities of the WS6.

Plus I gotta say, as a 25 year old guy, I feel pretty cool stepping out of a Corvette. No one has to know it's a 99 and only cost me $14k. haha
