Australia to lose Holden.
It's been nothing but bad news for performance car fans in Aus recently. Our market is a little different to the US as in that the main sellers have been 4 door, 8 cylinder sedans. Ford had the falcon, Holden had the commodore. The nameplates have been around since the 70s
We made our own v8 engines up till around 2000, then Holden started to use LS engines.
A combined combination of high wages, changing tastes and more diverse offerings from other manufacturers has seen both companies announce that it's all over as far as local manufacturing goes in 2016.
The only shining light is that ford have decided to sell a factory rhd mustang over here for around 50k in 2015. previously was over double that. Part of their less models to a bigger market policy.
I just hope we get a camaro or something with a LS motor in it from Gm when it's all over here.

We at Livenois love the Aussie inspired platforms. We do tons of work to the G8's and GTO's. I'm pretty sure we have a new S.S. on the way as well. The good news about the world platforms is we will have the opportunity to mod more cars across the ponds.

So does this mean the new Chevy SS sedan will only be around for 4 years? The latest Car and Driver issue had an article about the SS and it looks pretty good for a 4 door car.

Followed a lot Livernois' work on this forum and other ones, always impressed!
Been a Holden fan for as long Ive can remember and am sad to see it go.
The VF commodore (Chevrolet ss) is a good thing, a lot of good tech and a proven driveline. But yeah at this stage all over in 3 or 4 years unfortunately.

Ford had previously announced that they would be out of Australia by 2016. This announcement by GM leaves only Toyota as a car manufacturer there.
The statements coming from Toyota are not encouraging. They will probably follow, leaving no automobile manufacturing in Australia by 2017 or so.
