Default valve springs

Can you replace the back springs with a regular tool? I'm doing a cam swap this weekend and didn't have enough funds to buy a tool. I figured with some finangling I could get them out. I found one at pep boys that's pretty compact.

All of those plastic fasteners that protrude through the top of the cowl that everyone cuts themselves on can be pulled up and out of the way. No cuts no loss of blood. No big deal.

Its funny after I finished the swap I looked at it and thought to myself could of removed that. I never cut my arms on it though.
