Default Oiling the K&N air filter

So I bought the cleaner kit and I oiled both sides by mistake. I was able to wipe off most of the oil from the side that faces the MAF and havent had any issues. My question is should I just re-clean the whole filter?

Or throw it away and go paper

Ive never been a fan of KN filters. But over oiling the filter is not good. All that **** will get on your maf and make your car run like ***. I use a good old Fram.

I just oiled mine up pretty good on both sides... Doesn't say in the directions not to spray both sides. It actually says after letting it "wick" for 20 minutes to touch it up on both sides till its nice and red all around... I guess if theres too much it'll get sucked off the filter and into the MAF..?

Those are the same directions I followed too. Then I read on here to only spray the dirty side.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. You've wiped off the excess.

If you have some trouble down the line get a good aerosol electrical component cleaner and shoot the MAF's wires to clean them.

I have never had any problems. I run a SSRA along with the k&n so what do you think about that. That must be really scary to the paper filter gods.

Airaid dry filter here -- cotton gauze flow like a K&N without the oil. aFe makes them for us, too.

The only good thing about the k&n is it fits great since its so slim. Unlike the big fat Fram or Wix filters.

Worst trhing you can do to any engine is put one of those DIRT DELIEVERY K&N ANTIFILTERS in. They have worn-ruined many engines. COMPLETE JUNK!

I want to tell you a little story about a low mileage Corvette that had INSANE oil usage problem. Guy tossed the factory air filter when the vette was new and installed the K&N. By 30k he was back at the dealer with major oil usage problems, we pulled the heads off. ALL the cylinders, pistons and rings were WORN OUT. The K&N allowed so much dirt by even the inside of the intake was coated with road dirt!

I just spray the dirty side on mine and let it sit for a couple hours maybe overnight if I don't have anything going on

Same thing with the Airaid -- I don't know what it is about the paper filters that companies got it so wrong with the fitment.

I've owned three 5.3 trucks (on 4th now) all bought brand new. Only one had a K&N. At about 50K miles it was using 1 1/2 - 2 qts per 3000mile oil change. The other 2 and current one had/have zero oil usage. Guess what kind of filter I run in my truck and Camaro....
Haters gonna hate.

Over oiling a filter will coat the MAF sensor with oil - just remove and clean with electronic cleaner spray.

Regarding paper vs. higher flowing filters. Install a high flow filter and the entire idle of the car changes. there is a definate difference on air flow and motor loves it. Is it good in the long run, I guess not
