IMO, the weight difference is small enough that I would never lose any sleep over it.

It doesn't matter much to me anyways. I don't have power antenna, leather seats, ac, hear, power steering, back seats, anything under the dash, so on and so on. At the track i weigh just as much or less than Camaros.

Just trying to get the facts straight. And with me reading guys saying their stock Camaros weigh anything from 3300 lbs to 3800 lbs, and everyone using different scales, i can't come to go by someones word that that TAs weigh 300lbs more.

I will agree that TAs do weigh more, but not by hundreds of pounds
Based on the fact that there is no such thing as a "stripper" Trans Am, I think it's fair to say that the weight difference between a TA and a stripper Camaro (neither being convertibles) could certainly be in the area of ~100 pounds or so, but I don't see it being as much as 300lbs. Again, Camaros could be had without several things that were standard on Trans Am, plus the fact that some Firebird/Trans Am items weren't even available on Camaro.

I think the T/A will heavier, on average, than an SS or Z28 . . . WHY ?

(1) ALL T/A's have T-Tops

(2) MOST T/A's are "heavily-optioned" ( Power Window motors, etc )

(3) T/A's have "Ground Effect Skirts" , a LARGE rear spoiler, etc.

(4) The "Hideaway Headlights" and motors add weight.

(5) Extra "Sound-Deadening Insulation" and undercoating.

I have to disagree with this one. My Trans Am didn't have any more or less undercoating/sound-deadening from the factory than my Z28s.

But yes, overall I agree, for all the reasons already stated, that Trans Ams are in fact heavier.

SLP's "birth certificate" for the Firehawk's all list the same weight I believe, at least my fathers and I show the same weight. I disagree with that because mine should be a little lighter as mine is a hard top Formula with manual cloth seats, to his loaded Trans Am.

My camaro weighed 3390 full weight. It's a z28 auto with t tops, leather, monsoon sound system, power seat. One friend's trans am weighs 3660 lbs and the other 3620 lbs(more gas in one?). There are no 33xx lb trans ams. Period.

However my friend had a cam only T/A that held the all time 1/4 mile record, fully stripped.... He's on here.

My camaro weighs 3270 lbs now, back seat spare tire/jack random crap taken out. With the catback off thats another 50 lbs, with stereo out and some more interior trim it would be in the 3100's.

Apples to oranges but I'll add my .02

My 1999 SS , hardtop , leather , power seat, 12 bolt , m6 with half tank of gas and a full nitrous bottle (25lbs) , true duals dumped at the axels, minus: front and rear bumper , back seat with me in the car weighed 3500lbs .. About 3300 without the bottle and me. I've never heard of a trans am that weighed less than 3450lbs without driver..

Thus I'll agree with the options statement putting them realistically 100-200lbs more than any given camaro .

I have said this before and got raped in the srk section with a bunch of twists and turns. But I think 100~lb or so is spot on.

My camaro weighed 3430 bone stock with near a 1/2 tank of gas. My buddy's firehawk weighed 3480. Both are hardtops. Mine is leather his is cloth. My camaro goes 3050~ or so now depending on which "trim" it is in. Still has full interior and all options.

For those wondering the difference in leather and cloth. On a rear seat you're looking at about 1lb difference in the materials. So maybe 3-4 lb for a complete set.

Front leather seats typically have power motors, lumbar in the trans ams, ect. Have you ever picked up a front seat out of a 4th Gen TA? Extremely heavy. I don't have numbers but they are significantly heavier than cloth seats.

My Z28 with T-tops weighed 3,440 lbs with a half tank, spare in the trunk, and me OUT of the car. I consider that pretty good.

My T/A with just about everything besides TCS and cruise came in at 3390 on a 1/2 tank. That's minus rear seats and spare/jack. I was surprised.

A WS6 T/A will lose some weight in the hood compared to a standard Camaro or Firebird steel hood, making the difference smaller.

If its a hardtop and cloth its a Formula Firehawk. Not a Trans Am.

Everyone in the thread has already outlined it. T/A's are heavier on average plain and simple. I would say by 100-150lbs.

Accept it, get over it, and move on. Oh...and this is coming from a T/A owner.
