Default 317 vs 243 Question

Have a near stock 04 A4 Goat, wanted to switch my heads and I have the opportunity of picking up a pair of 317's for $200 or a pair of 243's for $500-600. Are the 317's worth it? Will I receive any gains? I've heard the 317 are essentially 243's with a lower compression rating ideal for FI, I never planned on running a turbo setup, In fact I plan on running a TVS1900 one day when pigs fly and money grows on trees haha. lmk guys, need to act fast.

If you plan on running the TVS or any kind of boost I think the 317s would be better. Otherwise go with the 243s.

IIRC the LS2 05-06 GTOs had the 243s...not the LS1s

I would never pay anymore then $400-450 for 243's unless they had some upgraded springs, etc but this has been brought up here a billion times and the general consensus is 243's unless your going boost because the 317's will lower the compression. Ill be running ported 243's w/ boost, you shouldnt be frightened of compression as long as the car is built properly.

LS1s already have somewhat low compression, with 317s it's going to dip in the high 9s.

You can mill them to get compression back up, but at that point you might as well have gotten the 243s for the money spent on milling. Do not spend $500+ on 243s, you can easily get them used on here for around $400 if not less.
