Default How aerodynamic is an f body?

I was watching the Nissan GTR documentary on youtube and didn't realize it was designed with such great aerodynamics. It looks big and blocky and the last car you would figure to be so smooth.

Looking at a 4th gen fbody, they look very slick and aerodynamic but I was wondering how good they would fair in a wind tunnel. Anyone have info on 4th gen aero stats?

Well they have a drag coefficient of .34 which is about average for a sedan these days. Third gens are actually more aerodynamic with .29. The GT-R is .26.

Would love to see some data on this as well. Seen lots of good info before on Corvette aero in relation to the amount of power it would take to get the car to 200 mph, however I've never seen any details on the f-body.

My guess is either the regular trans am or the formula/firebird is the sleekest. These cars aren't the best though. Being flat underneath would probably help a lot. But they could be worse. I've driven my parents' fit on windy days and actually had to fight the wind some. A lot of cars also can be scary on tall bridges and get pushed around a lot, our cars don't have this issue.

CD is listed on top first specs.

Ah. I wonder which car they used for that.

Cd is only part of the story. You also have the frontal
area and the progression of turbulence at higher air
speeds, quadratic or cubic. A big car with a low Cd
might still have more drag than a small car with a
larger Cd, even before turbulence kicks in.

Not sure what it did for the vehicle, but the actual '93 or '94 Indy Pace Car had the rear spoiler kind of blocked off..

Like the section where the air goes underneath had a body colored filler plug or something, so only air could go on top. Thought that was interesting.

This was also only on the actual pace car, the copy ones you could buy I don't believe had that.

I'm also curious about the SS wing, if it actually changes anything at all.

quite a few years ago, looking at a 200mph club/forum,the first mods done to a 4th gen SS was to put on the standard Z28 hood and 'spoiler' because of the turbulence they caused and return to the designed OEM air flow characteristics.
