Aluminum oxidation cleaner
Anyone know of a good "spray on" Al cleaner.
I am looking for something that could be applied to the block, trans, and all the periphery parts alt, compressor water pump etc.
Also, once you get it clean, anything to help with keeping it clean, sealed? Links are helpful.
Thanks for sharing your experience.

If there is oxidation there will be no substitute for 'cleaning by hand'. I show my cars and do it with products that don't break the bank. Start first with a good degreaser (many products out there) to get all the dirt/grime off the entire engine area. For my LS1 I have sworn by Noxon 7. It really shines everything up but it is a hand applied product. Be careful not to rub too hard. Start slow and you'll see what is needed. After that I use protectant (Mother's, Meguiar's whatever you like) and spray it it over everything. Wipe that down and then apply detailer (again your preference) after that to get rid of the greasiness of the protectant. It lasts for months with just the detailer needed afterwards to get the road dust/dirt off. Each product is under $10 and will last a long time. If you buy the Noxon on ebay beware of the shysters who think they are selling gold. It is under $10, not $50 - $75 like some of them trying to rip you off. Here is a picture of Noxon. They have been around for decades.

Thanks. I am familiar with the metals polishes applied by hand. I have a bike with a ton of show polished parts, and polish regularly.
I was hoping for something easier ie "spray on"...lol
The block is not polished out, but I don't like it all oxidized and spotted up.

OK, sorry for all the long winded info then. I don't think there is a simple 'spray on' that will do the trick. Strong cleaners will strip everything and then leave the surface unprotected. I guess at that point you could use the protectant, etc...

Go get AC EVAPORATOR cleaner http://www.toolfetch.com/fjc-5914-fo...FUGRHwodHL0E-w ,There are many others out there too. Its a mild acid for cleaning ac systems. Block will shine like new. I've also used plain vinegar, spray it on and let it sit for 1/2 hr. Its a mild acid that will clean the aluminum surface.

don't know if it will work well in your application but I am in the boat business and when we clean aluminum pontoons that have been in the water all season we spray on "aluminex" and it works very well . spray on , scrub with bristle brush , rinse off

I used some acid cleaner I got at orileys on old wheels and it did a good job. Should work the same on an engine I would think.
That is without even touching the wheels, I just sprayed on the acid and washed it off after 30 seconds.

Yep seems to be pretty dangerous if you aren't careful. I wore eye protection and chemical gloves and was very careful during application. Unless the part has been removed from the car I would be a little hesitant myself
