98 Ta start issue

98 Ta start issue
I picked up a 98 TA roller awhile back and got everything together finally. Car is using a 98 harness/computer with a stock 4.8/4l60 fbody trans.
Currently having a start issue. The car will crank but not stay running it’ll die immediately. When we have the fuel pressure gauge hooked up is reads 0 psi. Swapped in 2 different walbro 255 pumps and same issue. When the schrader valve is removed the gas does come out of the rails. The pump primed as well. We also tried to bypass the vats with the resistor but still no luck.
Anyone have any options on what to try to get this car to run?

The VATS issue should affect your starter relay and your injectors via the PCM.
It's strange that you are getting 0psi of fuel pressure after swapping different pumps and hearing them prime. Will it stay "running" if you were to continue to spray starter fluid into the intake? If so I would troubleshoot the no fuel pressure issue.

This is all the car will do. The car running isn’t the ta tried jumping it since battery starting losing volts. We tried the starter fluid with no luck. Video shows what the car is doing. Thanks for the input.

Today we primed the car a bunch of times to get fuel and did the starter fluid in the intake the car ran until fuel delivery was out. Would the security light being on have effect that would cause this issue? I’ve read about the vats but like instated before even with the bypass it still wouldn’t stay running.

The security light is telling you that the car thinks it's stolen. You get no fuel pump operation until you get the security issue fixed. Whatever you did to bypass vats didn't work.

I thought the car would not even crank at all if there was any issue with VATS ??
Is that not correct?
If there is an issue with VATS or the resistor in the key will the car even crank over at all when the keys is turned over like always when trying to start the car?

The original info said vats disabled the starter for 4 minutes. All the updated info shows it disables the fuel system for 10 minutes. Not sure when the changes happened. At some point between the mid 80's and mid 90's something changed.
There's a few nonsponsor sites that show the vats relearn procedure which may be of some help.

FWIW my "security" light on my '02 TA has been on constantly for over 2 years, yet my car has continued to run fine *knocks on wood*
Now, it's beyond me if the previous owner made any modifications to the VATS...

Got fuel pressure swapped the regulator in the tank and turned off the vats with hp tuners. Still having the same issue where it won’t start. Anyone have anything else to try?

If it doesn't crank it's a starter issue (wiring, relay, solenoid, dead battery)
If it cranks but won't start it's either fuel or spark.
If you swapped in a newer 4.8 then it may be a case of having the wrong reluctor which would cause the ecm to get a little pissy with you.
I'd make sure your engine and ecm are the same generation, then double check the major sensors incase one isn't fully plugged in. Then go old school and test for spark at plug 1 and then test for signal at injector 1.

Replaced the fuel filter a few weeks ago as well as put in 2 new inj fuses. With a test light on the injector harness I’m getting power to injector plugs. The only code on the car is p0405 egr code.

After much aggravation it turned out to be the crank sensor/harness. Swapped in the old crank sensor and the harness had some wires exposed taped it up and it turned over. Been a long time coming! Thanks
