That's the problem with older modern low production cars with multitudes of sensors and the like - the electronics go bad, the OEM discontinues parts support, and there isn't enough incentive for the aftermarket to reproduce replacement parts. This is a plus for the 4th gens; the electronics are rudimentary compared to the Corvette's and production was huge, so there's a good aftermarket.

You can remove the tcs system and the car will be fine. It's the airbag sensors and clock spring that's going to be a problem for the f-body in states that do inspections. The only other thing to watch out for is the bcm and random switches (the firebird mirror switch is already gone). There are ways to work around those things if you don't care about staying original.

I had a 2000 C5 and now I have a 2000 Trans Am. I need the back seats for my kids. The corvette was ten times the car the Trans Am is. Vette was faster, more comfortable, got better mileage and was a better performer. It also took to mods better due the lighter weight.
I love driving around with my kids but I really miss the vette!

I would avoid the Camaro listed above for all the reasons listed as a daily driver.
C5 vs 4th Gen is not a fair comparison. The 1997 C5 was a clean sheet design and the 1993-2002 4th Gen is still had a lot carry over suspension, rear end and other parts from the 1982-1992 3rd Gen fbody.
Unless you have an affinity for unrefined the pony cars like the 3rd & 4th Gen's fbody, I'd favor the C5 for most folks.
Of course I daily drive a 4th Gen 02 Z28 and daily drove a 3rd gens for ~ 30 years & 500,000 miles.

Save up a little more and jump into a C-6. Get one with the better diff I think there 06 and newer. There getting cheaper every day and there are lots of deals out there in the teens. Mine has been super reliable and it loves the highway and the track both with sticky tires on the back. 160 with the top down easy as pie. lol.

still, a 60-80,000 mile ls3 auto well taken care of can be had for very very low 20s. id much rather do that than c5, mostly aestectic reasons as a c5 Z06 and a base model LS3 vette will handle very similar, but the c6 would be more refined
