It has the 80-82 front and rear clip. The *** end has been completely re-done. The front end needs attention as far as tie rods, ball joints and bushings. I have all the parts but lost interest in it a few years ago.

Spartan is a good shop from everything I've heard. If your looking for 500+ whp from a 383 LS1, I would definitely consider Spartan's suggestion to move to a true dual exhaust.

Note - 383 LS1 strokers are basically obsolete with all the 402+ NA builds available. However for a daily driver mannered car the 383 LS1's can still be a nice fun to drive option.

Best wishes with the project.
Thank you so much. If I were to go to the true duals it'll take me to 12.5k.

For what it's worth since you're a Georgia guy, Rob Walden in Doraville built my 383. Made 470 wheel through the stock LS6 intake and old outdated edelbrock heads. Paid less than 10k too...

EDIT: Also, if you're aiming for 500whp out of a 383 you will want that Racetronix pump and hotwire kit.

Thanks for that info. Yes ... on that list is the Racetronic pump and harness.

I decided to go with Spartan. This build will start mid May .... so I'll have to be patient. Thanks for all the advice.

The TA is on schedule for May 17th to start the build. At that time she'll have had 374,000 miles on the LS1. Unreal. More to come later .......

Well ... now because of some delays I'm not scheduled to start the build until June 7th. Lesson of patience.

The good thing about waiting is I keep bumping up the list of things to do. I'm adding subframe connectors to the build.... from Mid West Chassis.

Just off of the phone with my builder and this thing is getting better by the day. I'm going with the Ls6 intake, 841 heads instead of the 853s, and the SFC is a weld in from UMI.

This is going to be a beast!

This is why I hate dealing with shops, constant delays and often lackluster results. You could have dropped in a 5.3L, turbo'd it and made over double the power in two weeks for 1/4 the cost and been done with it.

Sure ... "could of, would have, should have....."

I have no regrets ... I don't want to fool with it, plus I'm still driving it and at 375,000 miles is still running very good.

I would start fresh w/ a better platform but thats just my opinion. Only so much you can do w/ the 5.7 LS1 without dropping a grip. I went through the same thing w/ a old Heads/Cam C5.

Spartan is solid. I’ve dealt with Josh a couple times in the past and he has been on point. Also dealt with LSXperts once and I think you chose the right shop in Spartan. I’m just down the road from you in Marietta/Acworth GA fyi.

Absolutely, but for his power goals no need to go away from his LS1 unless it's damaged. I'd definitely do a stroker for it as I like torque down low for easy driving around town and it really doesn't cost much if any more.

OP, I look forward to hearing your results.

The thought was that since the crank is going to be replaced, stroke it. One thing led to another and the list kept expanding. The build starts June 7th. Most of everything has been ordered and ready for installation. A core, stroked block is ready to go as well as the heads. I'm planning to have the TA towed to Spartan next week and for the following next few weeks my `79 Firebird will be my daily driver..... fun, fun.

I figure it's a good time to repair the AC in the Firebird since I'll be driving it the next several weeks. Gonna try to run the existing A6 compressor and condenser and evaporator, but replace the accumulator and orifice tube, flush, evacuate and recharge!!

Did that back in '05 in my 69 GTO with good ol' R12 and it's still cooling strong. But then again, I only drive it 300-400 miles a year.
