You don't. Ricers are a UDO (Unidentified driven object) You can't explain them, you can't reason with them and you definately don't want to join them

When they said I would get speeding tickets, I just said "wtf? I can exceed the speed limit in a civic too?" being the smartass that I was. Never got the car I wanted needless to say...

Ok lets cut the BS. The truth is that you live in your parents home, eat your parents food and wear the clothes that your parents buy you. Yeah yeah, I can hear it already, I work and buy my own stuff..BULL. Don't think so? Well then buy a house, or rent an apartment and pay all the bills yourself. The bills inlcude gas, light, food, insurance, fuel, cell phone, cable, water bill, money to hang out, money to invest for your retirement, etc etc etc
Ok we have established that you are dependent on your parents to survive.
Next we already know that you are 17. I don't care how mature you are or think you are, you are going to dick around with the car. Wonder how I know? Ask yourself the same question 20 years from now.
Now the friendly talk..... There is time for you to get the nice and cool things you want but you need to prioritize. Concentrate on your schoolwork and thus your career.
A car will not make a girl like you or your friends think that you are cool.
The gas mileage angle that you are playing is extremely transparent.
I think alot of the older guys here will agree with me that if you have the money available to buy an ls-1 at your age, you should probably invest in a mutual fund or similiar.
Good luck and chill out.

30thanniv, spoken like someone who has forgotten what 17 was like! if your 17 and you haven't graduated yet, why would you use your money for a house, apartment, bills, etc. when you have your parents for that. School should be a priority but unless you have to pay for college all by yourself, which it doesn't look like you do, I don't see why you shouldn't put your money into a nice car. In high school thats all I ever spent my money on, theres nothing else you need it for, thats whats great about parents man!!!
And show me someone who doesn't dick around with there LS1 at any age. At least on occasion. Thats like buying a flashy exspensive piece of jewelry and never wearing it!

You're 17 for christ sake, don't spend your money on a ******* mutual fund. Buy a cool ride and enjoy the short time you have to spend all your cash on your car!

If you're 17, you're still learning to drive, or you better be. 17 or 18 is when you START to learn to be an adult. Hell I still have alot to learn about things too, and I'm 34! But anyway, if I had a kid I wouldn't want him in a car like mine. If I had one anywhere near that age, somebody would have been killed somewhere along the way. I know a kid that is in jail because he was done learning how to drive and killed a girl while running from the cops in his hotrod. I'm so lucky I grew up driving 4 bangers.

It's weird because I don't really feel as though i've changed much since I was 17, but now i'm getting ready to turn 20 and I don't do nearly as much stupid stuff as I did when I was 17. And back then i was in a 91 Lumina.

YOU WILL do stupid **** when you're that young, I Know you think you won't but I thought the same thing until I wrecked my car off a giant hill, I can't imagine if I would of had an LS1..

idk why everyone is like your only 17, dont get a ls1 because its hard to handle all the power. its a performance car.. with good HP and good torque. but for god sake its not a harrier jet or a tank. its car like any other car. on the first couple of pages people were sayin get a lt1. like a lt1 is like driving a honda civic or something. a lt1 has some power too. not as much as a ls1 but still.. if he feels comfy with it get it. im not being a dick or anything i just dont think it needs to be put the way it is. thanks

I remember how I was at 17. I remember how many times I lied to my parents about what I was doing on Friday and Saturday nights. I wouldn't help my kids to commit suicide so I certainly wouldn't buy a 17 year old anything that is commonly used in street racing. So no EVO's, STI's, Mustangs, F-bodies, ect.

As a kid you think they are picking on you for not helping you get something like a LS1. But later on in life as a parent you understand they were just trying to protect you and keep you safe.

HERE IS THE END OF THIS THREAD

I got my car finally. About 3 months ago I picked up a 383 stroker LT1 car. It is sickly fast, and that is what keeps me under control I think.

3 months of driving, no tickets, no being pulled over, no near-accidents or accidents.. I'm loving it so far. Just have to keep myself controlled and I won't have any issues.
