slap some 3.73's or 4.10's in there and then you'll know for sure.

well im not much for autos' i drive an m6 so its hard to say how high the r's should be but id say if you have anything its not much i would say maybe a 3.73, hopefully some auto guys can chime in here and give you a sure fire way to tell or at least give you there opinoin

hmmm, cuz an ss a4 gets 3.23's factory and the regular a4's get 2.73's so i would say its possible you could have a 3.42 like the m6 guys but i jus dont see why the prior owner would go to the trouble to switch the ring and pinion and not go to more then a 3.42...my guess would be you have either a 3.42 or a 3.73 but nothing bigger...hell trust me you would know if you have anything more then a 3.73....is your lt1 a a4 or m6....compare it to that car cuz you have the 3.73's in there if its auto see if it feels the same

jus my .02

Get under the car, rotate the tire 1 time, and see how many times the driveshaft spins. When I bought my car, the speedometer would show 65 when I was going 70. Popped the cover and found I had 3.08 gears instead of 3.42's (factory). If yours reads MORE than it really is, you've got larger (numerically) gears than stock.

You can also pop the cover, count the teeth on the ring gear, and divide by the teeth on the pinion. You probably should change the fluid and inspect the gears anyway.

Example) My 12-bolt has 37 teeth on the ring, and 9 teeth on the pinion. 37/9 = 4.11111111.

3.73's wouldn't hurt your mileage much at all. You can also look at the inside of your door and see which rear end RPO code you have. There's different designations for different gear ratios. Mine says GU6 (I believe) because it's supossed to have 3.42's. Do a search about it and you'll find more info.

Maybe your rpms are high because your convertor isnt locking up?
Dont know much else about Auto LS1`s.

If his speedometer is off, it has nothing to do with the 'verter. The sensor is on the tailshaft of the trans, it counts driveshaft revolutions, doesn't give a **** what goes on in front of it.

correct me if im wrng but the lt1 engine would have nothing to do with comparing the gears......if a car has a 3.73 and another car has a 3.73 the only diff will be the hp n tq of the engine aside from that so long as there both autos i would think you could compare them.....idk someone correct me if im wrong

Default Gear ratio

you probobly have either 3.23, 3.42 or 3.73, If it came stock with the 3.23 like my car it will say gu5 for the code and gu2 for 2.73 stock(on the driver door sticker). But i am at 67 at 2000 in my car so you might have 3.42s but what do I know!

well kind of...

comparing the LT1 and LS1 doesn't mean anything it depends on the gear ratios in the tranny along with the rear end

if an ls1 and lt1 car have the same tranny and rear end gearing then the rpm at 60 mph with the converter locked up will be identical
