Default Did any one see the the cover/article in Sport Compact Car thsi month?

i used to be an import kinda guy, so when i saw sport compact car this month i went over to read it and on the cover.... was a RX-7 with a turbo rotary, an RX-7 with a LS1 swap and... thats right a 01 Camaro SS... i loved it! i bought the mag and read the article, they compared the three cars, but ill just quicky tell u guys dyno and 1/4 mile stuff, first off they of course made sure they got a lightly modded camaro so it wouldn't put their rotary RX-7 to shame, the camaro only had intake, headers and exhaust, but get this, a freaking automatic! so they dyno the cars and the camaro puts down 332hp and 340trq, alittle low because of the auto, but not bad, the quarter for the camaro was 13.3, turbo rotary 12.4, LS1 RX7 12.4, and the difference in weight of these RX-7s and the camaro is 900 pounds, well i just thought i would share this, and i thought it was funny because they made sure they got a lightly modded camaro with an auto to put up against these modded up the *** RX-7s and it still did good, but if they had a stick and it ran a 12.9-12.8 like it would of, it would of put the heavily modded and 900 pound less RX-7s(rotary ones) to shame..... also go to the store and check out the cover it will make u smile......

One of the writers from that mag was on here looking for a stock SS to use in that article. I wonder who he ended up getting.

yeah, ya know i was in an eckard last weekend and i saw that article while filling a perscription and first off i felt horrible for bieng seen reading the mag in public (couldent help it with the cover and all) And second thought it was funny the mod differences between the two rx-7s and the ss!! Also, when i saw the article, the first thing that popped in my head was " Well Im gonna hear about this on LS1tech!"

I got that issue. It was great, my roomate and I had a good laugh about it. One of the FD's was a road race preped drift car the other was the heavily modified one with the LS1 in it. I thought the SS held its own pretty good considering that it was so lightly modded and a daily driver with a full interior, AC, and an auto. I think the article was pretty unbiased also which pleasantly surprised me.

13.3 sounds kind of slow.....I ran a 12.98 with headers and exhaust. There have been many A4's that ran 13.3's-13.2's bone stock. But then again, there are many variables that could have been affected. That's what we get for bench racing .

Coulda had a better time with the camaro, no doublt, but the fact remains the same. A near stock f-body(which is uber heavy, yo!) was right up there with some of the most modified rotories out there. I was proud to see that a car 5yrs old and 900lbs heavier was knocking on the "uber fast" imports' skirt-tails! They know who their daddy is....

the camaro was way improperly modified.

should have just had a lid and LT headers and had a 6 speed (since the other two were also)

sorry guys, I have to stick up for the ls-7s out there. That car was not our best and by no means representative of what our cars can do. In our world that was a basic bolt on car and not "heavily modifiied". That car basically had a bone stock ls1 in it. It should have been in the 11 second range with just a light cam in it. The brake bias was f'd and it was running on shoddy tires. I also agree that the SS they used was a joke. SCC has always been biased and dont think for a minute that they like RX-7s.

What was the trap speed for the camaro? I'm guessing at least 108 with those headers.

I have the article in front of me. They used George Lara's car. He's B&M's design engineer. His mods on the car, since it's his daily driver, are: lid, FTRA, Hooker headers with hooker catback, B&M holeshot converter, B&M cooler, 4.11 gears with Dayton Daytona tires ( I had those, useless with a stall and 2.73s, I could only imagine with 4.11s). His best time was 13.3 @ 106. Very low trap with headers. He dynoed 332rwhp and 340rwtq.

Extremely slow. I did 13.2 @ 106 with just a lid and loudmouth with those same tires.
Maybe he's at worse elevation but they didn't give out any 60' times or DA.

why are all of you guys yelling for a six speed? hell a stalled auto with a good set of tires will kick all of our asses any day. i dont understand the want for the six speed. most all drag cars are auto's. you think they use em for a reason? that is funny about the trap speed and time, very low. what was his 60'?

They didn't give his 60' and the car was also put on a roadcourse as well which is why people are asking for the manual. This guy's car was stalled but obviously something is wrong.

and im with em on the 6 speed.. autos arent fun to drive.. i dont care how fast they are. it takes more skill to drive a stick on the track over an auto. in an auto u step and go.. not saying there isnt ne skill to an auto.. just a lot less is required.
