On the contrary, manually shifting an auto would slow it down compared to leaving it in drive. And stock for stock, the 6-speed should edge out the auto at the track and on the street. Modded is a different story . I'd say you taught yourself how to open mouth and insert foot.

As to YOUR case...the sales rep was correct and as stated if you manually shift your 4L60E, you will burn out the clutches because sufficient line-pressure is not reached for that shift ect. ect. ect. and you will be slower as well. The sales rep IN THIS CASE owned you. But as stated above, that is rare.
PS, the auto F-bodies will USUALLY out-run a normal driver in an M6 at the strip, but ***** to the wall with good drivers they cant hang.

think about it, stock for stock (NOT MODDED!)
autos have more drivetrain loss, so an M6 will have alittle more power to the ground, and if the person can drive, the M6 will definately edge out the auto. the M6 can launch at a very high RPM, and also has taller gears.
whats so hard to believe?
modded is a different story, put a 4k stall/shift kit in an auto car and all hell will break lose, and lay the smack down on MANY M6 cars.

And yeah man, we are all just playing with you. I learn new stuff on this site daily myself.

The three LS1 M6 guys I've seen in person have run 13.8 or worse at the track. At the same track, my first time ever, I ran either a 13.4 or 13.5 with a CAI that I didn't even know I had. I'm sure that a pro would rape me, but the M6 guys say they can't keep it straight.

It's all based on the driver. But I used to slap around stock C5 Auto's when my SS was stock. It wasn't even close.
But a properly shifted M6 will beat out a stock A4. Its when you start going fast that auto's will destroy manuals.

Manually shifting an auto is not very efficient. Honestly, you cannot shift better than that computer, its very good at it! CamaroZ, the reason that he is saying that M6's rule on the street is one, like you said, they own on a role stock for stock, the A4 simply wont down shift and doesnt have as many gears to do so to, if a well setup A4 could stick on the street (very rare) it would be just like the track, but M6's can control wheel spin better than a stalled A4 that revs halfway up the band before really letting the tires have it. If you can launch my A4 on the street with my 285 Nittos and get traction prior to 45 MPH I would be giving you alot of money for your method!

A4's downshift quite nice, if in there sweet spot. But like you said, 4 gears vs 6 gears.
BTW I don't think I would fair well considering i've never driven a car with a aftermarket converter I sure as hell would have fun though
