I also posted this question in the new member intros - so I thought I better put it in the right place ... I have a 93 Z28 (LT1)
Today at about 3 PM I was driving down Gessner (a main road in Houston) in about 6 inches of water. An 18 wheeler blocked the road, and the water rose to the bottom of my door, and my car stalled out, and wouldnt start back. I pushed it about 50 yards in water almost up to my knees, and into a dry parking lot.
I just got home at 11 PM - had it towed here, because it still wil not start. It turns over but only sounded like it even tried to fire a couple times. Must also jump it to turn over because battery is almost dead now.
Anyone ever have this happen? What gets wet and makes it not start?
Thanks.

how to god that you didn't suck up water. Water can't be compressed, so if you did, on the compression stroke...the piston would push the water into head and not be able to compress it..and would either destroy the piston, or rob, or both.

Hopefully you didn't hydrolock it. Doesn't sound like you did since the lid on our cars are up pretty darn high. But yea pull a plug and then try cranking it, see if the plug is giving off any spark.

that sucks man... i have no addition practical advice other than stay home next time it gets wet like that.
I only have to drive about a mile down West Rd to get to my van pool parking lot, so I didnt get stranded or anything, but on the way to work in our huge jacked up econoline van, we saw a lot of stranded people.
Why an accord would try to drive through 2 feet of water is beyond me.
I heard I-10 was screwed all over... was that the part of Gessner you were on?

6 inches of water isn't going to hydrolock an LT1 with a lid, the lid is almost as high as the top of the motor. You would have to go through at least a foot and a half of water to even have it get to the lid, or go through it fast enough to have it splash up.
Sounds to me like you just shorted out the Opti-Spark distributor. You could take it apart, let it dry, and then see if it runs - but I think you're best bet is to just replace the whole unit, as someone else suggested. That should fix your problem.
