Is it possable to take 30K and make an LS1 run 9's, including buying the car?
just wondering because I guy I work with want to take his eclips and make run 9's. when I asked him how money he thinks it will take he told me 30K. I told him he could have a way more streetable ls1 and for that money he could buy the car and make it that fast. Was I wrong.
BTW, forget about those people who say a N/A motor, I am saying whatever it takes to get there.

I would say it depends... mainly on the amount spent on the car and if reliability is a factor. You could buy a built motor for 7k - 10k (not exactly sure how much they run usually, going off of a few I have seen), boost it for about 5k and do a rear end and be there no prob I would imagine, and that is with buying a car that is about 15k or so. Throw on some juice and I would call it a cake walk!

Good flowing heads, big enough cam, big enough stall, big enough shot, fully built A4, rearend, tune, suspension, sticky tires.......Yep, 9's are doable...
btw, I'm thinking this can be done for 30k easy...but if you go the FI route it will cost closer to 30k.

I could see that happening. Buy a slavage title fbody or a roller for less than 4k. Suspension and rear end should cost 10k or so. Say you have 15k left to play around with, get a 383 or a 402 built for spray. That shouldn't cost more than 8k, so leaves you some room to play around with if something costs more and for labor...also you can buy some decent tires/rims, 10.5W's should work.

many ls1s in the 9s with a 346 h/c and juice, but most with a powerglide or A3. It seems like most of those guys have changed to 400+ cu. blocks now though. and or turbo setups.

Yes you could but it probably won't be to reliable as you would probably be cutting corners. Or you could make a pass and grenade the rear end, so you would have a 9 second ride for one pass if it could make it down.

It could be done, but you'd have to do some shopping, searching out deals etc. Stoleits idea is great, buying a car with a working motor is a waste, you wont transfer anything over really, save for a couple of pumps and maybe the coil packs. Lets say you get the car for 5k, add 10k for rear and suspension, leaves 15k for motor, tranny, power adder, and tuning. You could get a nice forged 402 or 408 and a built tranny for that, then labor. It will be cutting it close, but doable.

Yup stoleit hit it right on the head. Buy an f-body shell (no engine or trans) for probably $3K, get a fully forged 408 iron block built for spray, some patriot stage 3 6.0L heads, tsp giant cam, direct port N20 kit, th400, 9 inch rear, 4000+ stall, sticky tires, drag wheels, hal qa1's, LCA's, PHR, high hp driveshaft, badass fuel system, roll cage, tune and install...should be able to be done under 30K but might be close if done right...

depending on how much work you do yourself and how much exp you have with these cars, you could deff do it. If you need a shop to do everything for you then it might be close, but prolly still doable.

It can be done for sure. Do your shoping on this site in the for sale section and you can find really good deals. If you dont mind a lt1 style body 30 grand can go 8's. I got one of my camaros with full Bmr stuff, and a 12 bolt full spool for $2600 after i sold the trans and junk in it. Good luck
