This pertains to the topic because it is normally a 2 min drive.

and besides, most of the parents of the many college kids who frequent this site can just fix anything or buy a new one with the swipe of a credit card, just tack it onto the tuition they pay for you.

the majority of people on here bought the car themselves, not from their parents

I think warm up is really outside temp dependent. For all my vehicles I do the following.

summer/spring (start up, adjust whatever, and go easy till warm up)

fall/winter ( ~40-50* 5 min) (~40-30* 5-8 min)

(~30* or lower 10 min. or until ice is defrosted)

wow, I certainly hope that your doing this with the door down and a hose from the pipe to the window.
of course.

Anyway, I read that the M6 doesn't make you skip shift when the car is cold because you are supposed to rev the engine higher before shifting in order to warm it up faster. I am just confused now.

i have M6 ls1. i start the car, seatbelt, tcs off, V1 on, radio on, heater/AC on and slowly drive off. i shift around 2-2500 till everything warms up. it takes good 5-10min of driving.

In the summer i let the rpms drop to idle and drive easy for a mi or 2. I don't drive the car in the winter but I let my truck warm up for a min and drive slowly with rpms below 2k until the heat feels like its getting warmer.

I was always curious how long it really needs to warm up, what does it really do to your engine if you beat it right after start up? I know it may take a sec to get oil pressure and perhaps a min to get it flowing everywhere it needs too, but whats really going on?

My snowmobile won't move untill it warms up, if it isn't, the rpms rev up but not to even close to the (8200-8800 WOT) not even close. And if you try and rev it like that, its likely it will stall out and be difficult to fire it back up

...as far as the snowmobile goes, the fuel on older fuel delivery systems (carb- throttle body) the fuel doesn't atomize well and it actually enters into the engine (to some degree) in liquid form. As the intake manifold is colder, the fuel actually sticks/ glides down the inner walls of the intake manifold.
Well that's my .02 and I can very well stand corrected.

Well.... If you dont let the car warm up and just put it in Drive, the RPMs will drop, isnt this better anyways instead of letting the car sit there at 2k rpms when its cold?

I've let it sit for almost 10 minutes before at around 30*F and the air coming out of the vents wasn't even warm.
Hot spots?????????????? What in the hell are you talking about... It's better for your engine to idle for a few minutes before driving, especially the LSx engines b/c of piston slap..... As for 10 minutes @ 30* and no heat yet, themostat might be stuck open......

I always like letting my car warmup for atleast a couple of minutes before I drive it especially in this cold weather

if I am in a HURRY, I shift at 1300 or so until she registers 100* and then 1500 until half way to temp and then 2K until at temp and then normally 2-2500.

some of you guys are being ridiculous

give it a couple seconds then you're off. wot trips with a bone cold motor are not that good of an idea, but honestly. unless you're making a ton of power, it wont do anything...

if you're making a lot of power, and you run off with a bone cold motor, you could split a piston in half. ive seen guys do it in sbc and even honda motors

Anybody running an aftermarket cam, and springs to match, needs to keep the revs down when it is cold.
