that was a good price for that car 4 years ago. that was about sticker, so i dont see the problem there.

chances are if the ad is 4 years old, he sold it that then and never took the ad down. he wouldnt have a problem selling a 2002 SS in 2002 for 35k

Now, I can't see any reason in the world why any ~50K mile basic '97 Z28 would be worth $19K today (that's just silly), but I also can't understand why some think that people should be giving these cars away either.

Here's my example:

I bought my '98 Z28 back in '04. At the time it had 11,000 miles on it, was stored in a heated garage, never driven in any rain or snow, and was assembly line stock down to the original air filter and wiper blades. I bought it from the original owner, who had every scrap of paperwork ever associated with the car. It was as close to spotless in every way possibile as any car I've ever seen that's got more than 3 miles on it, and I am very picky about condition. Even the windshield has no hairline scratches on it because the wipers were never used.

At the time, KBB value in my area for this car was in the $11-12K range. I ended up paying $14K for it. I had no problem paying over book value for a car like this. Living in northern IL, it's damn near impossibile to find a car that hasn't been exposed to salt (not to mention rain), and after looking for many, many months for a car in this sort of condition I realized just how special it really was, even though it's just a basic Z28.

The way I saw it was, I had found the car I wanted with exactly the options I wanted, in exactly the condition I required at a nearby location and I wasn't about to pass it up over a couple grand. In my world, two thousand dollars over book value just wasn't worth losing an oppertunity like this.
thats understandable. but would you have paid 12k over sticker for it? that is what this guy with the 1997 is asking.

No, I agree, that is just insane. Either the owner doesn't really want to sell the car (i.e. the "wife" comment mentioned above) or he is delusional. Either way it doesn't matter, no one will pay $19K for that car.....unless it's some mentally disturbed individual that just stopped taking their meds.

I sometimes wonder if I got ripped whem I bought 01 SOM A4 WS6, had 31,xxx miles 1 owner, guy in his late 30's and had the good potenzas on it (about a month old) only mods were a spintech muffler. I payed 19,500 when KBB was 24,000 (bought in early 05). 19,000 for LT1 maybe if it was super bad ***. even then hard to spend that.

i think that i did pretty good on my '99 ss: 23k on the odo, only $13k. my '02 had 7,024 miles and i paid $22,250 plus ttl. to me, they were both "worth" it. some people told me i got a great deal on the 02 and some would say that was 22k poorly spent, but it comes down to the buyers perspective.

Yeah I know there are specialty ones like the Turbo Trans Am and such...but the "not rare" run of the mill third gen like that one is no where near that price...

I guess when people can get away with hiking prices up and selling them to uneducated buyers, they will do it and continue to pocket the cash as long as it works.

You never know, I saw a Chevelle LS6 go for over 1,100,000.00 at the auction in Az! These car are getting ruined so fast, mileage, performance mods, wrecks. I bet down the road they will come around in price.

BTW, the over priced issue, I see that on ALL kinds of different things.

Ya, but that car wasnt mass produced back then. There would have to be some sort of F-Body genocide for that to happen in 30 years.

The only LT1 car I would pay $19K for isn't an LT1 car, its an LT4 97 Camaro SS with the hugger orange stripes or one of the very rare LT4 firebirds they made in 97. That is all...

Theres a guy around the corner from my house with a 74 challenger for sale for 10 grand thats been for sale for years. The guy just uses the selling bit to make freinds it seems because the car never leaves him even though he has been offered more then fair deals.

No body, I mean NO BODY, would buy that car for 19k. I'm not sure who you're fooling by saying that statement above. Maybe they might get a bite at 10k, but probaly not much higher. I would give the guy a call, and ask him who hes foolin.

Some people decide they need to sell their cars (or more accurately, their wive's decide this), so they put of a for sale sign. Deep down, however, they have no intentions of selling them.
