Default Optima red or Walmart's best??

My optima red top crapped out because I didn't disconnect it and the car sat around for months. The warranty is over, but optima said that they would send me a new one for $120 shipped. Is this really necessary or should I just buy a high end walmart battery at half the cost. I've spared no expense on my ride, but should I when it comes to the battery? Is optima as good as it's cracked up to be. BTW have an extra 10" sub and amp, and yes I've already searched around and can't make up my mind.

F&ck those wally-world batteries. They are good for lawn mowers, ect. but I would not put one in my T/A! For just a little more money you can have a better battery with a better warranty. Two or three years from now you will not miss the $40 bucks that you would have saved by buying a wally world battery, and your brand-name battery will still be going strong.

A battery is a battery. I have tried almost every type and a well taken care of battery will have equal performance/life... Considering you're only running a single 10".

Buy the cheap one and take your girlfriend to dinner.

Buy a wally world's best... I've got an amp on all my high's and my red top was terrible. It crapped out on me all the time. Havent' had that since I got the old school wet cell battery. I tried to find the most powerful one possible.

I'm still running on the stocker after 8 years and 33k miles, but its about time to replace it. I'm thinking about going with an Optima.

I'm thinking about going with a yellow top. Ever have any issues with yours? My car sits during the winter months, but the only reason I want a yellow is because it would look better under my hood than red. Or should I just buy a red and look for a cover....

Next time I'm at walmart, I will see what the best battery costs, if it's a 40 dollar difference, I'm going back to the red top. Optima is selling it to me 60 bucks cheaper than msrp, so it's already a deal. But still not sure. A battery IS a battery.

Those Optima battery's are some heavy *** batteries. I will vote for the Duralast Gold that you can pick up at autozone. 8 year warranty, plenty of power. I was gonna get the red top but when I compared weight, screw that, the duralast feels about 1/2 the weight of the red top, it was also less then 1/2 the price. I think i'll spend 1/2 the price, and if I have any problems after the 8 yr warranty runs out, i'll buy another one.

yea I work at advanced auto and its pretty much the same thing, Im the same way always buy the best for my car but honestly its a battery. I bought a top end one at advanced auto and just kept my reciept. The only real advantage of the optima is that thier is no water acid its a gel acid so you can mount it sideways or in different positions. But their no better then any other standard battery. If your car sites just disconect the negitive terminal and it will be fine. And in most cases the more CCA and amps the battery has the longer it will last b/c its less strain on the battery when you start your car

A battery is a battery IMO.

Im not gonna spend extra $$ for a name and a pretty case.

Unless im looking for a drycell battery, then thats a diffrent story

Anything but Optima is a waste of money. I have one and it's in its third car in 4 years. Have an extra in the garage, sat for six months, had to put it in a bud's car - cranked it right the **** up with no charge or jump. Red tops both. If the car sits or of it's dedicated audio battery, get yellow. Otherwise, red is fine.

The extra 40 bucks you spend on an Optima will likely save you a tow truck visit or two. Also, your stock battery is leaking, go check it, and clean up the acid damage.

Optima or nuttin'.

that thing looks awsome for a race type application!!! go to sams club and buy another optima, i've found they are they cheapest there. i got my red top for 90 bucks there about 2 1/2 years ago. it was in my truck for 2 years before i switched over, i've downright completely drained that thing until nothing, recharged and good to go!

This is why (along with it being lighter than the equivalent Die Hard Gold) I went Red Top. Did anyone notice where our battery sits (stock location)??!? One leak from a regular wet cell will eat right through that aluminum tube and right into the overflow tank. The LAST thing I want is battery acid in my cooling system!! I don't trust those "acid mats" some people run to avoid this (and surrounding metal damage) enough to risk running a wet cell battery.

try taking the redtop to autozone and putting it on there charger, i did this with my optima twice after it had drained completely to 0. still works fine. also, ive gotta give props to optima, i had this redtop in 3 cars in 4 years, one of which was my jeep, which grenaded the back out of the alternator on the trail, i was able to drive home 60 miles on the battery alone....amazing
