It's not a Pontiac engine of any sort. It's not any type of Buick or Oldsmobile engine either, and certainly not a Chevy engine - so I am going to guess it's probably some sort of Cadillac engine.

Yep, its a Pontiac. 400 CI made for the 69-1/2 GTO. But they decided not to release it in the car from the factory.
So they sold it as a crate engine for $2000 and some were dealer installed and some customer installed ans some race car installed.
They called it the Ramair V and it had all forged stuff inside and revved much higher than the RA IV 400.
My buddys doing it up for a customer right now. I'll post the HP it makes when its tunned.

its been along time since ive work on a pontiac motor. my first engine i worked on was a 72 400ci in a catalina.i should have known by the blocks two threaded bolt holes in the valley were the valley pan bolts under the intake and were the water jackets are. but never seen heads with those dividers in between the intake ports. i know that creates more volcity. pontiac motor are scarce they arent as easy to find as they used to be.didnt some of the 69-70 judges have that motor in them?

Sorry, I know its off topic and old iron, but I thought some of you firebird guys would like to see a real RA V engine.
When I was a kid we used to blow up an awfull lot of RA-III and RA-IV engines. GTO,s were cheep when i was a kid.
By 1978 GTO's were $1000 for a nice one that needed some work. $500 for a running parts car, and $2000 got ya a nice one all original. Between my buddies, friends, and brother in law we blew up, totaled out, and parted out some rare Iron.
Makes me cry now. What a sin.
