How to tell if you have an LS6 block?
I know that about 35% of the 02's had the LS6 block and that the code is on the back of the engine block on the drivers side but I need to know the codes for the LS1/LS6 in order to know which one I have. I also know that it does not have any more power either way just more oil cooling passages and I think it's a little stronger right? Thanks for your help!

I had a 2001 SS hardtop that was unusually fast for stock. When I took it in for routine service at the local GM dealership, one of the mechanics pointed out that I was an experimental type of LS6 indicated by a *bullseye* imprinted on the door sticker. Of course I was declared BS by most everyone even though the SS never got beat by anything ever.

99% of dealership mechanics don't know ****. I should know, I used to work at a GM dealership and had to listen to the retarded stories they'd tell. Between that and their shitty customer service, I quit working on cars altogether as a profession. And yeah, LS6 blocks are weaker than an LS1 block. The only thing an LS6 block is good for is better bay to bay breathing which in theory should free up a little horsepower in the upper RPM ranges.

The SS only had an SLP / K & N lid however the MAF had numbers I couldn't find. The TB appears to be stock. The manifold is definetly LS6. Haven't checked the oil pump ID.
I wish I could get a cam grind number as this might unlock some secrets.

Thanks for your help guys but I have found what I was looking for which is the code on the back of the block. 12561168 indicates an LS6 block. Acutually it was only about 25% that had them and they are weaker blocks. They just have better Bay to Bay cooling/oiling and theoritically should free up 1 maybe 2hp which does not mean anything.
Oh and I do not have the 99 WS6 any more. I have an 02 Sebring Silver hardtop M6 SS with all the SLP options. I just need to change my info on here.
