Default How you get the best mpg in your m6

This is assuming you're driving your car easy.

Do you skip gears, run through them all or wind up first and go right for your overdrives?

I'm curious. Personally, I enjoy running through all the gears, it seems like I don't have to press the gas pedal down as much when I do that.

From what I've read I think most people skip gears and don't let the rpms get too high just takin it easy.

Wouldn't that bog the motor most of the time?

i've read it's tough on the clutch to skin gears. I just drive it and gear change normally at 2k-2300 rpms and still pull 29 mpg highway. In town i don't give a rats *** what i get

i doubt skipping gears is hard on a clutch because we have factory skip shift.

I just go through all the gears shifting below 2k when i want the best mpg. I have hit 30mpg on the highway with 2 people and a whole car full of stuff for vacation. And i was doing 90mph no joke - the LS1 amazes me.

I run through the gears, shifting 2500-3000 till 4th then cruise untill i need to downshift (aka having to slow to 30mph). Im usually going about 35-40 in town and i get about 19 to the gallon and if i take it real slow, like reallly slow i can manage about 280 a tank otherwise its about 255 a tank

I generally get her up to between 2-3k on the 1-2-3 shifts, and then go to a max of 2k after that and try and cruise anywhere between 1700-2300 dependin on the limit/police presence

I did the same thing in my car, the T-56 is what amazes me.

Usually row through them, 1-6. But if I am feeling lazy I skip em.

Kinda off topic, but this kid we used to hang with a long time ago said the following; (He drives a 3000 GT I believe)
"Yea...my car doesn't have second gear. Its ok, I dont need that. I can just rev to like 5 or 6 and shift into 3rd..."

At that point I just started ROLLING.

I use the skip shift from 1 to 4 and drive it usually in 4th in the city. I shift between 1700-2000 u/min and get about 290mls with a tank 80% Autobahn 20%City. Thats about 11,5-12 l/100km which is a perfect for a V8 and for 6,64$ a Gallon premium here in germany .

What is the factory skip shift? I have test driven many M6 4th gen cars and I never notice any difference between any other manual car.

When the engine has reached normal tempratur and you don't raise the 1st gear over 2000u/min you will automaticly pressed in 4th gear when you want to shift from 1st to 2nd gear.

I bought another car to get good gas mileage. Trying to get good mileage out of an LS1 takes the fun out of driving. I will get about 15-16 around town giving the car hell, which is fine by me and a lot of fun
