I average about 300 miles (full tank) on the highway. In the city about 200-250 miles (full tank) in the city depending on my foot.

How many miles people get to a tank means JACK ****...not everyones tank is going to read the same, and the gauges are not going to be 100% accurate, hell I have had cars that run out of gas when the gauge read's 1/4 tank, and some that can drive with the needle past empty for days and never run out...why? because when your gauge says 1/2 full, it does not mean that you have used exactly half of the gas in your tank, nor does when it says close to empty does it mean your tank is bone dry empty...

The real question for this thread should be, what MPG do you get with your car...

So to make it simple:
1. fill your tank full
2. reset your odometer
3. drive around how ever long you want (drive until the tank is 3/4 full, 1/2 full, 1/4 full...it doesn't matter!)

4.Now go back to the gas station, fill the car all the way full again...Now look how many gallons you just put in.

Ok get in your car and look at how many miles you drove since you last filled...take your Miles driven and then Divide that by the number of gallons you put in your car.

So if you drove 200 miles, and just put in 10 gallons to fill it, 200/10= 20MPG...

I know KENS_SS_4 already went over this up above, but I am just stating it again.

Now to answer the question to this thread the correct way..

With my Trans am the best Mileage I ever got was 31mpg on an all highway trip...so 31 Miles x 16.8 gallons = 520 miles...so in reality if I would have used all 16.8 gallons of my fuel I would have gotten 520 miles out of that tank...But who the hell drives until the tank is dry, no one, I only put on 405 miles on that tank, and then filled it, and it took 13 gallons to fill it up again, so 405 miles / 13 gallons = 31 Miles Per gallon..

Now my Z28 with 3.73's has gotten 28 MPG on an all highway trip, and I have never gotten worse than 17mpg with either of the cars..in all city driving

To anyone who already knew how to calculate gas mileage, this post was not directed at you...for people who did not know how, well now you do, and it is the only thing that actually is accurate and matters when calulating fuel consumption.

End rant..
This is exactly what I was saying earlier. Thank you, Im glad I didnt have to type all of that, you hit all the points exactly, its not rocket science. But in the end it doesnt even matter because we go ourselves one bad *** machine, LS1

Maybe 19 on highway, but thats tops. I just dont belieive 300 or 400 or even 280 to the tank on these cars...unless you are on 6th all day ONLY highway then maybe 260.

Well believe it.

Going between 85 and 110 i got 26.4 on my way back from utah. If i had gone the speed limit im sure i would have gotten a couple mpgs better too. I usually get around 240 or so with mostly congested highway driving.

all highway, i get around 24mpg. all city, which is 90% of the time, i get around 15 mpg or 150 miles. i drive with a heavy right foot and it's "campus" traffic so it makes it even worse on my stall/2.73 gear combo.

I didnt read all of this long thread, but, I did see where someone is saying these cars won't get 300+ to a tank. Well, I posted in another thread a week or two ago about my heads/cam/4.10 geared car getting the worst at 19.7, and a best of 23. NONE of those tanks were all highway. The last several tanks, I have gotten over 300 miles before the low fuel light comes on. It's been right at 21.5 mpg, and thats with PLENTY of going through the gears shifting at 3k, triple digit runs, crusing in town, etc. It's good for 25+ on the highway

To the guy/guys saying it can't happen, maybe you should have your car/cars checked out

well lets see i had a nice reply broken down by exactly what type of drive i have but i messed up and lost the window. so now its this. Ok before the magnaflow exhuast install. on just the slp lid and k&n filter 240ish check gauges light turned on. and to fill up about 13.5 gallons making it a whoppin 17.7777avg. after the exhaust install 260ish until light turns on. making it a nice 19.7777 avg. using 93 or 91 octane. on my trip to houston tx from here was about 760 miles i used about 28 gallons and averaged about 27 MPG going 70 - 90 mph on the highway and stopping in rest areas because of my dog who enjoys to pee all the time!!!

I can get probably about 330. I have never run it to empty but get 300 pretty easy. Although most of that is highway. Probably only 40-50 miles out of the 330 would be city. Although I have a heavy foot in both the city and on the highway.

The car was tuned by a member on here (camtom12) for drivability, and on the dyno. Then, when the place I usually dealt with got up and running again (swapped owners, same tuner) I let him tweak on it. He got me another 14rwhp/10rwtq with a safe 12.8-1 a/f. Rolled out of the first place at 445/399, into the other place and first pull was 432/401, then left at 446/411. We didnt even touch the drivability parameters though.

FWIW, the car UNTUNED on the way to the first place, got just as good as it gets now

Damn nice. Yeah I forgot what my tune was, was done over a year ago now I think. I still have some lurching in 1-3rd when around 1500 rpms when under 20 mph hehe. But its hella evil

Smells a little rich and I think I have an oil leak in my headers.. hehe when I start up the car it tends to blow out some oil droplets out the drivers pipe lawl.

gg me.

Im saving up for a 9inch as well.

I am typical. Sort of.

I have recorded EVERY SINGLE GALLON SINCE PURCHASE! No bsing, get it?

Lets start with the basics:
MPG = The number of miles driven divided by the number of gallons used.

That is why you must fill up and record odometer, drive, fill up and record odometer, subtract first odometer reading from second then divide by the second fill up number of gallons. This will equal the mpg.

This is also the only usefull infomation (MPG). There could be someone who fills up at 1/2 a tank or someone that fills at 3/4. These differences along with different tank sizes make the term "on a tank" meaningless.

So if you use 10 bucks worth at a time you just record the mileage and number of gallons for a long period (say ten fill ups) and then do the mileage based on the odometer reading at the first and last divided by total gallon first through last.

Anyways I've had tanks that were losts of fun 17mpg and tanks that were keeping with traffic on the highway 27mpg.

I mostly go untill an 1/8 of a tank left, it takes 14 gallons and the trip reads over 300.
But the long term average has been 21.9 for 35,000 miles. Understand? No BS just facts.

AGREED
I average 300-340 a tank.

On a trip this past weekend with 85% highway 15% BS, I went 373 miles to a tank, and got 24.86 mpg.

I have a 2002. I always fill it to the brim. I drive almost all city, very little highway. I fill up once a week at 220-230 miles per tank.

I did take a trip to Dallas and got 340. Of course I was crusing in 6th 80 mph at 2.1K rpms. 6th makes a HUGE difference!

The people who drive all city and get 300, I don't see how it is possbile. And my vehicle is in top running order =b

WTF...in a stalled auto w/3.23 all city I get 180-200 out of 13.5 gal....and with 90% freeway 10% city I avg. only 250mi. out of 13.5 gal. so thats about 15mpg city & 18.5mpg highway for me

nobody ever believes me when i tell them my car gets 'good' gas mileage...

yesterday coming from nebraska to chicago on I-80 i got 30mpg and 400 miles on my first tank with the cruise set at an average of 80 and the ac on with a HEAVY crosswind the entire time.

i went 399 miles and it took 12.9 gallons to top it off. i was freaking SHOCKED. i would say 98% of that was cruising with the exception of semi truck passes. (i hate to linger beside or behind those rock flingin things)

last summer i averaged 25mpg from chicago to texas and back with VERY spirited driving at times. 120-130mph on desolate roads where it was relatively safe to go that fast. (absolutely nobody else around for miles and miles)

but around town it aint at all that pretty. i've never checked in-town mileage but i would estimate 15mpg at best. probably less than that.

btw, i always assumed our tanks were 14-15 gallons since i've never had to put more than that in it when it was on the 'e'.

Actually our tanks are 16.8 gal. Thats a decent size. Just as an example, take what the M6 window sticker says on a WS6, 27HWY p/g take that times 16.8 and you get 453.6 miles. Very interesting stuff. Trust me Ive been in arguments with so many people about my gas millage. I tell them that I get great gas milage for a V8 and they go into their BS theorys why Im full of ****. Yeah and your Prius is faster than my TA.
