I have just over 15 left on my loan, they're right when they say the 1st year is paying off interest. Good thing is, now I have an actual credit score and getting a low interest loan in the future for anything else along the line won't be difficult.

I wish I could do cash only. I do now. I wasn't so smart when I was younger, and its tough to pay cash only when you're from a lower income family and want to go to college. Between cars, credit cards, student loans, and all the other little nitpicky things...alot.

One more payment of $491.81 to GMAC and all of my cars will be paid for. We paid off the wife's Alero last year, and the S10 Blazer was bought with cash. The Blazer probably needs around $1k dropped on it to make it a better daily driver though - A/C and a new valve body in the tranny.

It's really a regonal culture thing. When I lived in Detroit everyone had two car payments because cars don't do well in the winter there and everyone knows someone that can get them a discount on a new car. Down here, it's much less common. I can't beleive I ever paid out over $800 a month on car payments though - never again.

I only owe about another $1700 on my car. All of the other mods are paid for. I actually have the money right now to pay it off, but gettting a cam and heads is far more important to me....

If you think about it, other than having overdraft protection on a checking account, there isn't really another way to work on your credit score if you pay for everything in cash. Almost like you have to have a constant manageable debt just to get things cheaper if you choose to finance anything down the road.

As long as you have a good pay history you should be fine. you credit is actually hurt if you are in to much of debt. There are ton of other small things that can build your pay history, expecially a good checking account standing and time with the bank. A phone bill or insurance ect.
