So you should have gotten 1/2 that since you did 1/2 the job. ...Or would you have gotten 50,000 had you completed the job? lol

I'm 25, single with no kids and I make decent money. I pay cash for all of my mods, if I can't afford to pay cash I don't buy. I love this hobby, but I'm not willing to go into debt for it.

Got just over 9 grand invested in my 408, but almost everything is new. Short block, heads, intake, clutch, valvetrain, yada yada yada. Income tax return, couple grand out of my pocket and about 1500 on a card.

I work very hard and I'm compensated nicely. My wife
also has a solid career. We are well into the 6 figures with
our combined income.

SweeTbone, why don't you change your withholdings on your W4 and have the income on a monthly basis, no tax free loan to the goverment

PS awesome color WS6 you got there

lol.. imagen how it is for us here to tune our things, everything is much more expensive, i paid 30k for my 98 Z28,

when whe are moidding whe buy the things in the us and ship it over here, with the expensive of shipping and taxes the thing costs twice the oem price,

for example i have spent about 21-22k in modds on my car,

10 spokes, tyres, SS spoiler, complete H/C/I motor, window motors, clutch flywheel, LT's Y pipe, catback,

I did. I claim 1 now for both federal and state. When the second kid comes along, I might leave it at 1 though. Not a knock against you personally at all, but it seems like when I talk taxes with other people at my work and in general, all of the sudden they are "certified tax specialists" and know everything. One person says claim one kid still, and one person says claim both. I just bought a house 6 weeks ago. I know that will help. With claiming one, I saw a $65 increase per week in my take home pay on my check. I'll gauge what to do the following years I guess after next years return. Everyone's income is different, so when they tell me they got $5000 back, I'm really skeptical that I'll get that much back.

Thanks for the compliment by the way!

All of the cars in the sig are paid for with the exception of the 'vert and that's because my wife is trying to build up her credit rating so we took out a loan in her name to accomplish that.

I'm a consultant and I work my *** off to bring home the cheese. My wife works too although she is just getting her foot in the door in her industry (commercial insurance) so it's really my pay check and not hers that explains the toys. Big factor for us: No kids.

DO NOT use credit cards for a car build up. Save up until you can afford major projects or just don't do them. Put small mods on the credit card here and there as long as you can pay off the balance at the end of the month, but my real bottom line is don't do something you aren't 100% sure you can afford.

Lol I kinda do it for a living (financial advisor) but yeah I agree with what you're saying, see how those major life changes effect your situation before you make any changes and then move from there. Like you said, everyone's income is different so you never know. Seems to me you have a level head on your shoulders! (No sarcasim in any of that by the way)
Too bad you weren't closer I'd like to see that T2 when you install it we have very similiar mods Oh and big time hahaha

And to the original poster....I charge everything,(for reasons such as documentation, credit card backing you up, and points...**** mine as well earn on stuff I'm going to buy anyway) but I ALWAYS have the cash to back it up. I refuse to pay credit card interest or go in debt just to be faster than the other guy.I think the best way to do it is put a little aside each check and save systematically and before you know it you too can blow 3 g's on a rear too haha.

ALL of people with crazy mods/cars are in one of the following situations:

1. in mad debt

2. saved for a long long time

3. make shitloads of money.

4. they stole it.

I make almost $40 an hour and my rent is 300 bucks a month, but it would still take me months to afford some of the **** people on here have done to there cars, not to mention the cost of the car. I have alot of projects in my head, but can't muster the ***** to spend $15 grand on car parts, just so I can go faster than another guys car for a few seconds here and there.

Do you guys charge this stuff on your cards? Take signature loans out? What?

Mine is pure luck. I keep a sharp eye out for deals and am willing to settle for smaller stuff until I have money for what I want.

I just save up and budget the money in. I currently have the money for Lt headers ready but have not pulled the trigger as I have other more general maintenance/performance mods to do. I've already started to run prices on heads/cam and come up with a savings plan for that but h/c package won't happen until at least next spring so we shall see.

i am cautiously spending...i have money in the bank in case of an emergency but i have most of my stuff on CC's paying it off monthly...

i won't exceed the amount of money i have in debt tho, i need to have enough to cover it if i lose my job.

i'm 19 i have the rest of my life to pay it off and i'm already making good money...

your only young once right,

all the mods i've done to my car were charged on a credit card and paid off the next month (to earn Disney dollars for the next vacation--- 1% sucks). Car is paid off. I'm engaged, so, i think my days of spending money on the SS are over. For some reason SHE thinks a house is more important.....go figure

I went to college for 5 looooooong years, got a bachelor degree in architecture and now I have a decent job where i've been for the last 9 years. I save as much money as I can so WE have a decent deposit for a house. She is a high school teacher, so, that basically says that i'll always be making more money than her.....unfortunately.

back to the point, debt isn't worth it. If you can't pay cash or pay it off the following month, then you probably can't afford it.........at least thats how I think.
