My 94 3.4L V6 has the rev limiter at 120mph. I was clocked at 124mph going downhill by a Fontana (CA) police officer. I haven't gotten my SS up above 110 yet.

My 95' Formula w/ Z rated hit 165, then I slowed to 145 and got passed by a New York State Police 98' camaro interceptor going at least 165. Nearly blew me off the road and I was 2 lanes over. Sometimes even cops can't resist the urge. One of the greatest and scariest moments of my life. I had a guy on my submarine that didn't believe me and after a brief run to 150 would never ride with me again. Trust me give them all a ride.

I owned a 94 TA LT1 and it would not go past the speedo limit. I did not have the 150 mph speedo though. I can't remember if it was 110 or 115 but the car sounded like it was cutting out (it would slow down about 5mph then speed back up). I have never had this prob in my Ls1. Never hit 155 (have not tried) but 135mph racing a stang on the interstate ( did not need to go any faster proved my point ).

Took mine up to 143 and backed off of it. At 128 I hit 4th gear (A4 automatic). When I hit 143, I still had the rest of the entire gear range. I don't think it would have taken very long to hit 200+ ... but once you get up over 150-160, the wind drag makes it take longer for the car to reach higher speeds. Of course, I have no speed limiting ... all that **** got tuned out the 1st month I got my car.

I hate ignorant people. They used to talk crap about my '98 Cadillac Seville STS. Mine is governed at 130mph. It'll do that easy. Z rated cars will do 155mph. Yet, people still think because it's American and a "Cadillac" that it's slow and excessively restricted. Gets on my nerves.

In the case of the LT1, the OP is correct that if the speedo is the 115 and it came with less than z-rated tires, there is a speed limiter. This was 108 on the 94-95 model years. Not sure on 96+. Also there was no speed limiter on the lt1 if z-rated tires came on the car (unlike the ls1's where the limiter is 163).

I've been in the 150's.

I did that on H-rated tires bone stock, but I wasn't the first owner.

It's correct that the non z-rated cars were speed limited somewhere around 115ish. The cars that came with z-rated tires had no speed limiter, at least until 96 when the obdII systems came onboard. I believe with OBDII the speed limiters came into effect somewhere in the high 150's, low 160's, it may be the same 162 as the ls1 cars.

I had the '99 Grand Am GT I used to have to its limiter at 126. Hell the new Impala SS's are supposedly good for 154. However, I wouldn't feel comfortable doing that in the Imp.

Funny thing that caught my eye about that article is how over-priced the Camaro was.
