need sum advice, buying a 98 z28
i've got a guy who wants to trade me a 98 Z28, his odometer shows 202000, he said the oil pump went out at 189000, he said a mechanic replaced the oil pump and bearings, wouldn't it be wise to go ahead and take the whole motor apart and check for other damage like cam, cylinders etc? he said the car runs strong and everything and the tranny was rebuilt at 168000 with a b&m shift kit ,so what do u guys think about the deal?

Run it til it dies. Mines at 193k and still running strong. I don't think anyone really knows the expected life of the LS motors yet. If they do, I'd love to know. I just hope mine holds out til I can get a crate LS3.

It all depends how much and condition of the car. from what you said it really aint enough to say if I would buy it or pass on it. If the price is right I wouldnt let the millage scare me though

the car is really nice and looks real clean, has a fresh paint job, looks like it has been taken care of, What do i need to look or listen for when i go to look at it? it also has a 4:11 gear and flows with no cats.

Obviously you don't have much $$ or you wouldn't even be considering a car with such high mileage. I would still say, "stay away" unless you are prepared to put some serious money into it. I've never heard of ANY car not needing some immediate bucks with over 200k on the odometer. On the other hand, if you are getting it for ultra cheap, then what the hell, nothing to lose if it dies, right? You didn't mention how much, or what the deal is.

just be prepared for replacing other odds and ends if you do get it. Steering components, suspension bushings, etc. also, with that many miles i would think it probably rattles to hell. thats new weather stripping and the like. to get it and drive it till it breaks is fine. dont expect it to be worth much when you go to get rid of it though.

yeah like everyone says include both parts here, how much does he want? also if it's cheap (real cheap) i don't quite understand what some say is SERIOUS MONEY!!! when you get this for dirt cheap i expext.. then buy a used low mileage LS1 or other LS1 being you're cheapest option at 1k to 3k and you're set. **** if someone told me 6k or in that low area i would get it, take the engine out and make that thing a monster
