Default High Idle after long drive

I was driving home from school and after 150 miles at 75mph i hit some traffic and the car was idling between 1200 and 1400 when its normally around 800-1000 at most. any ideas why?

im not sure but this happened to me recently. I drove te car about 60 miles, and for a couple minutes after getting off the highway it idled a little high, around 1250 or so, then it went back to normal idle around 800. Not sure, only happened the 1 time.

Mine does it when the AC is on sometimes, usually like 1100-1200 though.

you may need a new TPS...

Throttle position sensor. About $30 at most autoparts stores.

When the TPS goes out, the behavior is very erratic and different for everyone.

I had surging problems with mine, others have had your symptoms...

It could also be your IAC, which controls your cars idle. more then $100

Both parts are known not to throw codes and screw with how a car runs/idles

My truck was doing the same thing and it finally threw a code for the TPS. I replaced it, and it idles nice and low all the time now.
