I recently moved from South Florida to Utah. A lot of you are probably thinking "Why?"...and I would have to agree. Anyway, my question is on the drivability of your LS1 in the winter. Im going to be back in school this winter, so I won't be driving as much, but obviously there is a huge difference in Florida's winters to Utah's winters. I have experience driving in the snow, but just wanted your opinions on the subject. Thanks!

the mormons dont like LS1s. just remember that

if the car is 6 speed itll be a little easier to drive in it. just dont give it too much gas from a stop or slow speed and you'll be good. get a set of all season tires too.

Drove mine for 5 years in our lovely Indiana Winters. My 76 mile round-trip commute wasn't much of a problem at all. I never got it stuck once in the snow nor did I miss any work because of the weather. I didn't even use snow tires either. Just be gentle on the loud pedal, and you'll be just fine.

drove mine in north dakota/minnesota/wisconsin for 4 winters mine were autos and get a set of blizzak tires, 3 70lb sandbags and you should have no problems with it. unless they plow snow and leave it pilled up in front of your car.

I live in illinois and the only time i had trouble in the snow was when i parked my car on the street over night at my friends house and the plows buried it. i just kicked some snow outa the way and eased it out. just take it easy and you'll be fine.

i put my car iin the shop before i went down to GA for a couple of weeks...got back and there was about a foot of snow...had to wait for the shop to open up...hit a couple of spots of ice on the way home...that was the only time that car will ever be driven on snow ever again...id rather risk messing up the jeep then the car

I drove my car in Colorado winters for awhile and never got stuck...hell, I would hardly slide. Just be careful and be very aware of your surroundings and you'll do fine. The thing I hated the most was exposing my car to the elements.

Do your car a favor and yourself...get some snow tires and take -off rims. The best option is 16x8 base model 1997-2002 Camaro/Firebird rims and Bridgestone Blizzak snow tires. The common sizes are 205-60-16 are 215-60-16, I believe. I have been driving my 1998 Z28 A4 in the snow since it was new and before that I had a 1995 Formula A4. I also drove my 1999 SS M6 the first year I got it. Also get at least one50lb bag of cat litter for some weight; I personally use two bags. Place the bags of litter on the rear deck, right above the fuel tank, not in the t-top boot. If you put the bags onto of the deck, they will be directly over the rear axle, pushing the tires into the snow. The wider the tire, the more the tire rides on top the snow; the skinnier the tire, the more it cuts through the snow. Being you have a manual trans car, it'll be easier to drive then an auto as long as you have a stock-like clutch; you can start off in 2nd if needed, 3rd if you're good enough and you have gears. There were a few occasions that I had to start off in 3rd in my SS when it was really icy and my car was completely stock at the time, so it can be done. Just remember with snow tires you will destroy them very quickly by spinning them on dry pavement. A lot of people excessively wear their snow tires because they wait to long to swap the regular tires back on. As soon as the weather begins to break enough that you won't need them, take them off; in northeast Ohio, here, that is about early-mid March sometimes April.

Like others have said, buy Blizzak tires. I have Blizzak WS-50 tires. You can get a package deal from TireRack (thats where I got my first set). They come mounted and balanced on cheap steel wheels. When winter comes, I swap my summer wheels for my winter wheels and keep on driving.

i will have to agree with most, if its m6 it will be a little easier. you just have to take it easy, use skip shift, stay in 4th+ when possible. ive been sideways in a friends car, 3rd gear 2krpm.
