Default 01 ss vs 01 z28

I have a 2001 z28 navy blue metallic auto non-ttop with 43000 miles on it.has had body work twice on it. some spots look like maaco did them. Right now the paint is in fair shape to me cause it has door dings and scratches. But still looks great when clean. The rims are 17" 10 spoke and two of them have curb rash. My dirver side window is badly scratched. With all that said! I have just found a 2001 ss auto t-top with 50k on it. Loaded! Navy blue metallic. 10 spoke painted wheels..wish it had the chrome ones. They are asking 15500 for the car. I have got pre-approved for the amount. Payments will be around 365 a month. Right now im paying 228 a month. I owe 8500 on my car right now and they will probably give me more for it. I already have 2400 dollars worth of bills a month. So that extra 100 dollars it really getting me. But i think its worth having something you can really be proud of.....what do you guys and gals think? Im going to go look at it tomorrow.

Depends. Adding $100 more per month to your already $2,400/month worth of bills isn't a big deal if you bring home $4,000/month. On the other hand, if you take home more like $2500-3000 per month, then an extra $100 on top of the $2400 would be a big deal to me.

very true! My wife and me were in the navy and so money is always tight to us even if we have 10,000 dollars. On that hand i make roughly 2400 a month and she makes 2000 a month..

i would say to keep the Z28, unless you want t tops that bad. if not just add a SS hood and spoiler to the Z28. there basicly the same.

you KNOW if you can afford it or not. If your wishy washy about the extra $100 then you know you might have trouble payin it off. If it was easy to afford you probably would have gotton it already. and with 50k its not THAT special. Also that price is a little high. My 99 SS had 34k on it and i got it for 14,500 with an extra set of ZR1's from the original owner, window sticker, car cover, all original. I would say hold off, continue paying for the Z, and when you find a good deal jump on it.

Doesn't seem like a great enough deal to me. Good luck tho, just my .02

I would say save those hundred dollars a month till you get enough, paint it get some new wheels, and a hood and there you go. That would be the route that i would go. I new car note is a new car note. You are going to add 3-5 years in payment. Your car has less miles and you probabbly know how it was driven. 8500 to 15500 thats 7500 more that you could have had inmods. Now if the car has been in a couple of wreks then get rid of it because the car is really not worth a damn. Unless you are just upgrading to something like a vette or viper I really dont think that its really worth it. Its almost the same car. I think alot of people Respect a car that can run hard more than a car that looks good. I have a buddy with a TA that get tons of respect in dallas and his whole front end is Black and the car is pewter. I think everyone knows his car like that. But they sure respect it. But long story short save the money and Buy mods, or fix the cars imperfections. That is my opinion.

If you guys are making $4400 per month vs $2400 in bills, that leaves you with $2000 extra each month. With that much extra, I don't see $100 more as a big deal. Unless you plan on any big changes (new home, having kids/more kids, etc.) in the near future, you should be able to easily afford $100 more per month, and still pay the car off early. IMO.

Pull a peronal loan for 7000, 8500+7000, puts you at 15500, which is the price of the ss. now i now if i had 7000 to dump into an ls1, i could fix the paint/body, put my choice wheels, and have sum extra for under the hood goodies, that would put an stock ss to shame. Or save which is safe but sh*tty and go from there

I would keep the Z and fix it up. You can use that extra $100 a month for mods/paint/wheels or pay off your note sooner.

okay! Not really the responses i expected to have..lol. Its not because its an ss. That has some to do with it but not all. List of everything i hate about my car.

Rust..rearend as rusted enough to start making layers come off.
Every bolt is rusted
The car was from NJ..explaining all the rust.
The wheels have curb rash. I like the factory wheels.
Factory ss, not clone!
Paint sucks..bumper has been replaced with a aftermarket so it doesnt say camaro across it no more. Thanks to the cheap body shops.
The roof looks like someone took sand and rubbed everywhere...scratches like crazy!
The wing has little dips in the paint from poor preperation.
Hatch has a piece about to come off the corner from someone pressing too hard and cracked the fiberglass.
Hood has little dips in the paint but not as bad.
Dry spray underneath the spoiler.
Both knock sensors are out...been that way since i got it.
There is a place on the console that someone cut a slot in underneath the parking brake handle.
It has green carbon fiber overlay all over the console and panels.
Even the bolts that hold the seats down are rusted.
Really bad scratches on the driver side window
I believe the driver side quarter panel has been replaced cause it doesnt have the decals, nor does the door.
There is a spot on top of the door in front of the mirror that has actually broken off, cant see it unless you look through between the mirror and fender.

Im sure im missing a few. You need to remember that an 01 is already 6 years old. They are getting harder and harder to find any with less then 50k miles on them. If you look up kelly blue book the price is right with it so its not really all the high. The ss is loaded also without chrome wheels...but i still try to second guess myself thats why i asked everyone here..

Well thats easy then after all the explaining ^^^^ Do the extra 100 a month and get the SS. Dont forget, you will probably get a yearly pay raise bringing your take home to match your monthly bill for your take home. I say do it. You need to be happy, you only live once, and if you arent in debt, and you have the money to save, enjoy life. thanks by the way for serving.

As long as you guys have money that you're putting away in savings, etc. each month then hey I'd say go for it and spend the extra 100.
