Default rough idle after car wash?

After running my car through my local quick quack car wash the past few times, my idle becomes real rough. Its as if it messes up my A/F ratio or something. The car just putters and the rpms bounce around. This last time I decided to turn the engine off and the problem still occurs. I've been using this car wash for the last 4 years and they do an incredible job and I've had no problems. I switched from a K&N filter to a fram a couple of months ago is the only thing I can think of. Has anyone had any experience with this?

Sounds like you might have gotten some water in the filter somehow or a sensor is getting wet. Does it go away eventually?

you mightve gotten water on a connector or sensor.

doesn't happen necessarily after a wash, but my car goes in and out of rough idling.....I dont why. it never throws a code or anything, the rough idle started up again last week after i put some sea foam in the gas tank.....

They don't spray the bay. I don't see how I could be getting any water in the filter when the car is off. I should probably check to see if its damp.

This happens to my car every time it rains heavily or if I take it through one of those (I rarely do that). It goes away after a while.

It's always best to wash motor with running.

If you hook up a scantool when it happens you can probably see immediately which sensor it is that goes nuts, and then it should be easy to figure out why it's happening to that sensor. It could also be something like old crappy plug wires combined with some moisture getting into the engine bay...does it happen if you drive it in the rain?

Don't think that turning the car off when there's a LOT of water spraying on it will have much of an effect on the filter...there's not exactly some tremendous air velocity through the filter at idle while you're rolling through the car wash...only time it's gonna pull water in the filter is if the filter is submerged, or you're spraying water directly at it. Even then, a little bit of water going through a running engine wouldn't make it run like that...it'd just steam clean the pistons and chambers and make it run nicer.

Ya it goes away after about 10 minutes and the last time it rained it happened too all within the last month. It had actually stopped raining and was just sprinkling but the roads were still nice and wet. Maybe water coming up from the road.
I unfortunately don't have a scan tool :/
Maybe I should just replace both front o2 sensors? They expensive?

Before you change anything. Disconnect the battery and then disconnect both pugs on the PCM. I'm pretty sure you are going to find water in one or both of them.

This exact same thing happened to me a few weeks ago when I washed the car. Idled rough and missed real bad at lower RPM then would clear up at higher RPMs. Sometimes, after driving a few miles it would totally clear up. Somehow I got water int he PCM connectors while washing the car.
