This is easy. I would get the SS because the 01 cobra looks like a GT. The SS is faster and cheaper so that seems like a winner to me.

I want the most reliable, best bang for buck car out of the two. Here are the pros and cons from what I know... Fill me in on the good, the bad and the ugly from what YOU know... a pros and cons list. Thanks

2001 Cobra:

Pros:

-I LOVE the Cobra exhaust note
-I like how it is not such a long car
-Seating position (I am really not a fan of the *** to the pavement kinda position, I don't feel as in control)
-They may not be as fast as the Camaro but they are still fast enough to get me into deep SH**
-Seats 4 a lil easier
-More limited?

Cons:

-Not as fast as the Camaro, I don't know how much slower but...
-Mustangs are everywhere even though I think Cobras are the exception maybe?
-Insurance may be higher?
-More expensive and not as easy to find?

I can't think of many cons, I just know the seating position in the Camaro bugs me, it's a PIA just to muscle the door open because it's more of a lay down position and the Camaro is a LONG looking and feeling car, even though it may handle better. Which one does handle better? and how much would it take to get a Cobra to handle really nicely?

SS Camaro:

Pros:

-You have confidence that if you where next to a 2001 Cobra that you would be on top
-SS looks mean and isn't so common
-Faster car
-Handles better? Or am I wrong?
-Cheaper...

Cons:

-The long car thing...
-Seating position...
-Umm? Bout it?

I also am concerned with reliability, I don't want a car that I am going to have to be fixing weak transmissions, motors... and important stuff. The less problematic not so durable car will probably get brushed aside. What do you think?
98+ LS1 man. The Cobras are great too but when you want a complete package with easy modability AND reliability, the LSX cars are impossible to beat. Nothing wrong with the Cobra if you go that route either but go drive both and I believe the 98+ Camaro will get the nod. Now if you could get an 03 Cobra for $13K....

Any 99+ body CObra has IRS. Last ones with a live axle was the 98.

That settled. I would go with the SS.

Besides the 03/04 cobra the only ones I would get is a 93 and a 98 and that would only be base on looks and preferance, not performance at all.
did you forget about the 2000 cobra R? 385 rated hp, basically a race car out of the box. didnt even have a radio lol.

now that the straight line speed thing is out of the way, ill post about handling.

CAMARO>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>cobra.

yes the IRS is good, but that year model is much weaker than the 03-04 cobras was (31 splines for the 03-04vs 28(??) for the previous ones)

front geometry wise, the camaro wins hands down. the mustangs (stock, mind you) have a bad problem of bumpsteer (up and down movement, changing the toe-in/toe-out of the tire) this causes the car to steer rather than the driver. there are many other reasons for the mustang to understeer much much more than the camaro, but its been a long day and i cant think well right now.

the only problems turning wise that the camaro have are weak wheel bearings that like to suck money out of you. as well as the front calipers like to expand under HEAVY braking and cause pad taper which = replacing pads more often cause the ones you have have worn unevenly.

all in all, id stay with the camaro SS.

someone please feel free to correct me

Lets be honest here for a moment tho.... Stock for Stock,... A Cobra can take corners on a course better than an F-Body any day of the week! ...

ehh...not as much.

ive personally seen a good driver in a F-STOCK legal 99 formula catch and pass a good driver'ed lightly modified (exhaust, tires i think, Caster camber plates) 03 cobra at Texas World Speedway's 1.9 mile short course. however they both got spanked by a supercharged miata

i do give them credit tho, they are better than my truck!

all in all, it comes down to driver.

Dude,... IRS,... against a Solid Axle ... They got us stock for stock on a road course. I'd vote some kind of Driver Eror. Now a straight line is something esle! We got em there!
