No I did not forget about that car but that car uses the "Cobra" name and is not something 98% would call a "Cobra". The "R" is in it's own class and was a highly limited production car, unlike SVT Cobras.
While it's a nice car and a hell of a road course car. I would not group it in with the Cobras or Mustang GT's that are Mass produced and are not true collectors cars unless its in the eye of the right owner.

I say go with the SS. There is no comparo in my opinion between those years. Now if it was an '03/'04 Cobra...never mind...But an '01, eh. I don't know all about them but I don't see the oomph to em. Like I said I think there's more of a toss up between an SS and the SC Cobras. As well as a major price increase

id go with the ss...i was looking at an 01 cobra too but i drove that then my 01 z28 and i was sold on the ls1. Like was said before id go with the 03-04 cobra if you want to get a cobra. better interior than the 01s too.

might step on a few toes here, but i would stay away from the WS6 trans-ams. if you are even CONSIDERING doing any autocross or roadracing, the added weight of the WS6 package over the SS package will kill you. the fact that fully optioned WS6es are close to 4klbs makes me sad in the pants. i love their looks, but for someone like me (road-race-wannabe/ autocrosser) the weight is a big turnoff.
99/01 cobra vs. 98-02 SS = SS
03/04 cobra vs. 98-02 SS = spin a bottle and see what lands on what. if you do alot of street type racing and drag racing, the extra HP will be at your distinct advantage, as well as the ability to put a pulley, and tune it and you are looking at ~430 whp for less than $500. that makes ME want a terminator.

in the end, this is really up to you. the cobra will hold its value better, but the ss is cheaper to mod. the cobra is more comfortable(to most) and the SS is faster. we could go on and on. it all depends on what your needs are(dd, street/strip, etc.) and which one you want. this could go on forever.

It's funny this is also posted on SVTP and some of the posts are comical. For the most, they say Cobra. Even one post had a tard saying his H/C bolt ons Cobra smokes stock LS1's, so get the Cobra.![The Jester](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies/LS1Tech/gr_jest.gif)
I voted for LS1 there too.

As mentioned before I say go with the SS. If it were an 03-04 then you could make the strong argument for the Cobra, but not an '01. And as for the comment about them being mass produced...you can see a Cobra everyday when you go out somewhere, but I'm sure the majority of us have never seen a "R' in person.
