Cobra Rs arent meant to go in a straight line fast. They are built for the track, and only the track. In order to buy one, you had to have a liscense to race. Though they are cool cars, they are not for everyone, and certaintly not for 99% of the people who need a car.

i agree wholeheartedly with this.

Do you even know what you are debating? First off you questioned someone else who mentioned that Cobra R's were not mass produced like Cobras and GT's. I added to your quote questioning them about being mass produced.

I owned a 2001 cobra for 9 months. It was my first v8, rear wheel drive sports car. Traded it in after those 9 months for my current SS (which btw, i saw 'n bought at the SVT dealership) and have no regrets. Owned the SS for 3 years now.

They both handle good enough that unless you are doing some seriously dangerous driving or are on the race track, you won't notice the difference. If I had to guess between the two which handles better, id guess the cobra by a little due to the IRS.

$500 nitrous kit and slicks...maybe.
Gears really help the 4.6 4V as they were under-geared from the factory. 4.10s (or even 4.56s) will make the Cobra feel like a different car. Still, apply the same cash outlay to the SS and you're back out front.
I had a buddy with a 1999 Cobra. He had 3.73s (were installed when he bought it, not by choice) and full exhaust. Car ran great and sounded great. Ran him a few times with my lid/exhaust Z28 and he promptly sold it to buy a 2003 Cobra.
You really can't lose with either car and it depends what you want from it.
Refined exclusiveness with good power stock and sick power just a blower away? Cobra.
Cheap, nasty, bare-knuckled brawler with unlimited potential? SS.

The live-axle acquits itself quite well on flat surfaces. IRS will definitely shine on uneven, or bumpy surfaces.

Thanks. I could also mention that the LS1 F-bodys' suspensions are set-up WAY conservative from the factory. Get a performance caster/camber/alignment from a shop that knows what it's doing and toss the DeCarbon shocks for some Koni/Bilstein/etc and you'll be shocked. Look around for some performance swaybars and springs. They can often be found on the "classifieds" board for cheap...

SS.....cheaper with more power, T56, and 3.42s.

I personally can't stand the hood on the 99/01 cobra's.

Not to mention....it is a rarity to find that cobra for 13k. Good luck on that one. If you can, it's probably got a 'history'.
