Price too high?
I was hoping somebody could give me some advice. I found this 98 Camaro SS with 14,000 miles, auto, leather t-tops. The whole deal. It's at a dealer and they want 16.9k for it. Does that seem too high? kbb says it's worth around 10k, but for a car like this it's probably not too accurate. Here is the link.

I'll probably end up waiting for a nice 6-speed either way, lol

If you want to wait for a 6-speed DO IT, if you get the auto just because it's the first you found your going to wish you got the manual once the new car appeal has worn off. Plus stick is just more fun. I think 17k is a little bit expensive for a 98 though. Keep lookin

OK OK as a car salesman i can advise u to make the offer but make it some wut reasonable dont hit them with at rediclous offer cuz they are just gonna laugh at u when u leave. i bought an auto from my dealership as soon as it was traded, i had my roommate look at it (head tech in my shop) and got the ok from him and said ill take it, now sometimes i wish i would have waited but other times im glad.

Not only should you know what the car is worth, but you should know what YOU are worth. Check your credit score, then apply for credit else where.
Go to the dealership with "check in hand" and say I want it for this price (show check to sale's man). And if it's reasonable, you'll get it

14k miles is very low so i could see how the dealer wants more i gues... but i know when i bought my 99 z28 like 3 months ago the bank gave me 10k for the car but i only paid 8 for it and mine had 97k miles...

Id say make him and offer and bring in the KBB value for the car. As someone else said make the offer and leave your contact info. Thats how I got my 98 z28 in 2002. It was a 6-speed, all options, t-tops, chrome wheels, bone stock. 25K miles on it and in mint conditions (plus was NBM). They wanted 15K, I offered them 12.5K and left my info, they called back a week later and said they could do the $12.5K. No reason not to bargain but that sounds like a sweet SS so do what feels right.

I drove it the other day. It's mint and drives amazing but no t-tops no 6-speed. It's hard to pass up but i'll prob wait for what I really want.

The car isn't worth $30k, but I don't know anyone that'll let a mint, 14k mile '98 SS go for $10k. At least not in my area. Unless they are super-hurting for cash.
If I owned that car privately, I'd list it for $14-15k and wouldn't sell it for less than $12-13. And I'm not even a dealer. I'm very confident it would bring at least $12k on a private sale in my region.

I get a kick out of people thinking that they're going to pick up a mint condition, super low mileage SS car for the low price listed in KBB. KBB means very little when it comes to special interest/hobby friendly cars like V8 F-bodies. They almost always sell for more than KBB price.
