I get low 12's with a full weight car and only about 325 rwhp. But it's a lot easier with an automatic. My gears and stall net me 1.65-1.71 60's very consistently which makes 12.3-12.4 ET's very easy. And I'm still on stock gears and ls1 intake.

So completely true. To me 10's is slow but there are plenty of people that would run what I run and think it's slow.

Pretty much fast is just a tick faster than the speed you're used to.

A car is fast to you when you would have to think twice about it before racing it for money.

Perception is reality for most, but most of the time isn't the truth.

Look at my mods in sig, I run low 12s all day, and I havent even touching anything inside the motor.

You all say some very good things about what is fast, but a few of you touched on the main point. Fast is relative, there are alot of factors involved like the person said if your used to running 14s then 12s are fast for you. To me when speaking of relativity, I think about the purpose of the car, whether it is a street car, weekend warrior or full blown race car?? Personally any car that can keep its factory trim, power everything, a/c, etc etc, drive to the track under it's own power and still get decent gas miliage, then rip off some low 12s to high 11s is fast (for a street car). Sorry its so long, I like the topic and just wanted to add my bit.

yea I know what you are talking about, but those are magazines, and sometimes just another way of advertising product. There are some lucky, factory freaks that dip into 12s even bone stock but there are too many things involved that can manipulate your 1/4 mile time.

There are plenty of ways to easily get an LS1 in the 12s with minimal mods. N20 alone will do it, Auto: big stall sticky tires, full bolt ons, etc. Don't worry about what your car puts down. I've outrun a full bolt-on, full exhaust, geared and tuned car with just a lid, catback and stickies by 3 lengths. How? The tires. I could launch alot harder and jumped out on him and by the time he started to pull, it was too late. Its not how much you have, its how much you can use. Although the more the better, lol

Oh geez guys, I'm talking about real parts like twisting driveshafts apart, breaking torque arms, breaking rod bolts, not the toothpick rear (for M6 cars) or the tailshaft housing because of a damn rubber bushing ( experienced first hand) damn even my battery bracket broke but now it's being held by a metal bracket (damn plastic pieces)
