Default How fast is fast?

I am looking to get a Camaro SS and too be honest I don't know much about cars. So my question is if someone has a Camaro SS that is running low 12's what would the HP look like and really how fast would the car be, and how much does it cost to get an SS running low 12's?

Well look at this way.....Chevy claims around 315 (for the sake of argument) horse off the showroom floor and most cars run low 13's almost into the 12's completely stock. To get a car into the low 12's could be done several different ways. Are you looking to spray, add a turbo kit or do it the old fashioned way?

To get a car consistenly in the low 12's with an average driver you need 400RWHP. So full bolt-ons, big cam, suspension, and a stall if you're an automatic.

Unfortunately low 12's is slow nowadays. Unless you run at least 11 teens or 10s or lower you won't be considered 'fast', and even 11's is stretching it for that label.

IMO 10's are fast but a few years ago i thought a 300hp car was fast. After seeing the new LS motors coming out my view might shift.

Fast is when you have nice 315 mickey thompson drag radials and you cant get the car to hook on a nice street from a 2nd or 3rd gear roll. Thats fast to me. Now-a-days i think fast would be anything that can run better than 11's. I mean a stock Z06 runs 11's, and its stock. In a few years if you aint running 9's or high 8's in a legal full weight street car, you aint "fast"

No, all you need is a lid, $30 muffler, stall(4k don't be afraid), gears(3.73s auto 4.10s suck for highway), and tires. I went 12.35 all day. Very very close to full weight. Like 35 lbs taken out, then a 1/4 tank of gas.

this is kinda funny. i would not say 12s are slow by any means. i think people in the LSX camp have seen what these things are capable of and are not too impressed with a low 12 sec car. however a 400+ rwhp LS1 Camaro SS will handle most competitors in a street race. and will seem very fast to the average person. again how fast is fast? there will always be someone out there who is faster.

ummm i was runnin a 12.22 @113 with just under 350whp with a 1.76 60ft , if i pulled a 1.6x sixty i probly could of pulled a 11.9x... thats small cam, 3200 stall, LT's, OFY, cutout, M/T Dr's, 3.23's. and my car on that old set up was VERY connsistent. now a six speed thats a totaly different story.

13's are fast depending on what you drive. I spent 12 Grand on my last car (1995 SC2 Saturn), just because I thought it would be cool. It ran a 13 or so on a 75 Shot.

Look at it this way, a stock Camaro is faster than 90% of the other cars on the road.

Pretty much but you won't even need 3.73s, I did it with 2.73s and all the other mods you stated, tire, lid, stall and catback.

"how fast is fast"

Really fast

On a serious note though. it's not hard to hit 12s with the LS1, headers, manifold, DRs or Slicks, driver mod, and a good stall and your looking at good numbers.

To run low 12's:

Sticky tires, mild cam, stall or clutch(stock clutch isn't going to last), headers, catback, lid, tune(that's a big part of the equation if you get a cam). BTW, a stalled auto will rip a M6 a new one at the strip.

Maybe a 12 bolt or 9" if you break the stock 10 bolt. M6 is pretty hard on the rear, an auto car will most likely be fine on the stock 10 bolt.

Or a shot of nitrous will get you there without the cam.

EDIT: I consider a street driven car(a/c, ps, low rpms on the highway, good street manners) that can run low 12's to be pretty fast.
